CI "Membership Cards"

Apols for bumping an old topic.

Appreciate it doesn’t have the same status as the MOD90, but is there a policy about returning this if you cease being a CI? No one has mentioned it since I’ve gone back into uniform, so I’ve basically been using it as a bookmark since then

Nope, I think they get forgotten about. Like the new IBN RE service numbers doesn’t mention them at all…

As a membership card it is valid for as long as you are a member of the organisation as a CFAV in my mind…

…despite being in uniform the card remains “valid” even if the particulars do not reflect your current position within the organisation your “membership” of the RAFAC still remains

I do miss Linton a lot

edit: didnt realise you posted that a year ago but the sentiment still applies haha

Same. Spent many a happy Sunday at the VGS there.

As far as I know, these are as a dead as a dodo.

at my old Sqn CI’s were given contractor passes… only requirement was BPSS

Seeing posts that the MyRAFAC app will have the first ever digital ID for the MOD, (for cadets).

Are CI still going to be left out in the cold with nothing formal offered?

MOD90 for Uniformed staff
MyRafac ID for cadets
CI - No Chance!

I seem to recall reading at some point it was done in collaboration with RAF Apptivate team and was some sort of proof of concept/trial for the incoming digital MOD90.

I would think they would have included CI’s ID on the roadmap.

The FAQ said that it’s been developed for cadets, but has been developed in a way that could allow them to review that in the future.

I still don’t see why this problem isn’t just solved by getting MOD 90s to CIs. Printing ID cards is very cheap, and there are many civilian contractors who already have MOD 90s. It’s not like MOD 90s are only for serving personnel in uniform.

Sounds like a VoV worthy question to me

Or if they want to protect the sanctity of the MOD90 they could issue a common civil service pass. They hand them out to all sorts of contractors here. Even the local vicar who comes in once a week to run the Christian Union has a permanent pass

I thought they were location specific?

They are and they aren’t. But it would still be an official government ID. Even the MOD90 doesn’t officially get you on a base unless you have a need

I think as well it is because there is a requirement for SC clearance for unescorted access to Stations and CI’s only get one of those, presently, if they are arms/ammo qualified. Perhaps it is the cost involved in getting the SC clearance that is why they are reluctant. I agree, however, that CI’s should get a ‘proper’ ID card that is accepted. It is easier for a Cadet to access a Station than a CI!

Thought I would post this here as well due to the talk of electronic IDs as replacement for Mod90s

Don’t forget you need an SC to be issued a MOD90 - bearing in mind the admin burden that will bring, as opposed to issuing what is effectively an ‘internally made up’ ID card that requires no further vetting than that already in place.

From a conversation i heard from someone in the know even mod90’s will soon be a thing of the past.

Virtual id cards aka the new 3822 apps will become the new and approved id for all cadets regulars and even CI’s (already been approved and on trial at some raf stations)

That’s been public knowledge for a while now, discussed here regularly.

Been trialled at Leeming, heading RAF-wide soon, and we will follow as soon as it does.
