Christmas Shutdown

My sister just got this down the CoC in her wing. Not seen in mine yet.

So we have just had our email from WHQ, however nothing saying that there is any stop on Squadron / Cadet activities, just that WHQ will be shut.

Nice to see a centrally joined up approach!

It’s actually reassuring that things don’t really change that much

My Wing Commander a while ago has said that there is an extended leave period and he recommended we all have the time off, but if we planned on doing anything then to let him know. I explained how short notice it was, and that we essentially plan our training programme a year and advance and he was fine with it. Our last parade night is 20 Dec and we’re back on 3 Jan for Staff and NCOs for planning and 6 Jan for cadets.

We normally do Christmas bag backs, but can’t this year because of Covid.

A step by step guide on how to seriously disappoint cadets;

  1. Allocate flying slots to a squadron who haven’t flown for over 2 years.
  2. Allow sufficient time for sqn to pick cadets to fly and for them to become excited at the prospect.
  3. Enforce a stand-down which means the flying day is cancelled.
  4. Inform the sqn that they now go to the bottom of the list for flying!

Surely flying can get RC approval?

That part is the worst part of the whole thing. I would be kicking off majorly at that, and if an affected parent I would be on the blower to the Commandant

Surely this hasnt happened

It has. Very very disappointed in the organisation.

That sounds like a sick individual enjoying inflicting misery on cadets. Get them out of post immediately!

Given recent news, don’t hold your breath for any flying from Cranwell until the new year earliest.

Fixed that for you.

Can you not ask the RC for permission? RC(N) said the shutdown could be ignored with RC say-so.

Anyone know why the Tutors are grounded again?

Heard a rumour, but no more than that. Not sure it should be promulgated in public when it’s not confirmed.

But I’m seeing more things about them not being grounded…
My old UAS is still flying. And this post on pprune suggests there are just some limitations on what they can do in the air; Air Cadets grounded? - Page 261 - PPRuNe Forums

I heard the perfect song for the Christmas shutdown … The Importance of Being Idle.

Flying into the new year cancelled… not sure if due to Mx issues or Xmas shut down. Either way, more disappointed cadets.

In discussion about the Grobs Mx woes recently, a cadet asked if the Grobs are ā€œjust a bit crapā€

OC straight off the bat; ā€œNo, the MOD has form in turning racehorses into camels.ā€
