We’ve been told the Christmas shutdown doesn’t exist and is a RC(N)s own thing.
I don’t believe this, but it’s convenient to believe it for now at least!

They are 20+ years old now, so yeah, they’re becoming a bit crap.
I’m in his region and haven’t had anything communicated.
I think, as evidenced by that, and by the fire thing, and the 3822 thing, and the AVIP thing (and that’s just this week)… That hq simply has no idea what anybody else is doing. These are not the actions of a team that is demonstrating any form of planning or joined up thinking.
Not maliciously incompetent, just incompetent.
And yeah, I know they see this and think it’s rude of us to sound off against people who have feelings too and you know what, yeah, it is rude.
But it’s nothing compared to the contempt they demonstrate towards us on a daily basis. So sod 'em.
The aircraft I fly is 40 years old and due to the right kind of TLC, care and attention, flies more beautifully now than when she left the factory.
20 years for an airframe is still new in light GA!
I’m in C&E Region. I pushed the VoV letter and response up the chain of command to my OC, who passed it up to the Sector Commander. The official reply we got from Wing is that it only applies to RAF/Civil Service and we have been told that we can continue with parades, so our Sqn is just taking the normal 2 weeks off - that we normally do. Additionally, there is no requirement for anything to be authorised by the Regional Commandant - we are just continuing as normal.
I work on a 40+ aircraft, that is routinely taken to 8G, sometimes beyond…
With careful maintenance, they can last that long.
How long were Bulldogs in service for, before replaced by the tutor?
Ooh go on, what is it?
Has to be a T.1
1972-2001, though they weren’t used for AEF most of their life. Only took on that role in the 90s, previously solely for UAS use. And I’d wager the high turnover on a flying day for AEF ac doesn’t do much to enhance it’s life.
Can you organise for me to have a go pls.
Can we take the aircraft chat elsewhere?
Yeah… you nerds… what do you think this is… an aviation themed youth organisation…
Nah it’s a cyber themed youth organisation, didn’t you get the memo?
Seconded.
The aircraft I fly is almost 30 years old and although no corners are cut, with all i’s dotted and T’s crossed to be deemed legally airworthy I’m certain the MOD (ok Babcock as the MOD Contractor) has a bigger budget and greater resource per airframe than the aircraft I fly…!
And finally, the message has made it down and we are now on the 3 week stand down!
But can meet at san fir low risk meetings if oc agrees
We’ve still not seen anything about the shutdown, so are working on the basis it’s not a thing.
We’ve been offered gliding slots on the 2nd Jan. So it clearly isn’t an equal shutdown.
Wow, what is this gliding thing you talk of?
Paper aeroplanes.
As long as you follow the RAs for handing scissors.
