Following on from the Canadian Air Force rank thread, I thought it might be fun if people designed their own rank structure for an Air Force.
You can add in uniforms and equipment too if you like

From wacky-pedia.
I love history.
I quite like the idea of being an Ardian!
The only change I would make is get rid of SAC (T) but saying that when we reach the 100 year point its all just going to go Army anyway
Every time I hear that from a soldier I like to remind them how Britainâs standing army has to be justified before parliament every few years since weâre not supposed to have one. Then remind them how weâre an island and the enemy has to come by sea or by air.
But, yes, more Ardians, please. And a dress uniform that looks less âpost officeâ.
Why get rid of it?
Iâd change Fg Off and Plt Off to something that doesnât make outsiders think that everyone in those ranks flies!
Itâs much harder than I thought to create a new rank though!

How about something a bit Red DwarfâŚ

Anyway since the British âArmyâ has less than 100,000 personel, theyâre techincally not an army but a defence force⌠
I always think that whilst our No 1 uniform style generally looks ok, the colour is poor and it needs something to âshow it offâ. The colour should be darker blue (along the lines of the RAAF colour) and a âSam Browneâ would finish it off. I remember seeing some pictures of RAF officers in India in the â20s or â30s wearing Sam Brownes and they looked good (Wilf might have them!). I also think that the high collared Army âBluesâ look really smart too - Bandsmen used to wear them, so why not others?
As for No 5s? Awful. Again, darker blue and while weâre at it, change the style for a high collar with plain front âMandarinâ shirt like the Army Air Corps. Rank braid should be plain silver on the working blue uniform, gold on No1s and toned down for combats (as weâre seeing on MTP).
I also thought that the post about Blue Sashes which has now been locked, could have gone on a bit more. The Armyâs crimson sash for officers is very smart and having worn the blue one when doing CAS ushering duties, it does make you feel different.
Whilst weâre discussing ranks, why does the RAF not have a generic, gender-free, name for itâs personnel? By that I mean someone in the Navy is called a Sailor and someone in the Army is a Soldier - all gender free names; the RAF has AirMAN or AirWOMAN.
OK I know that the Service tends to use the term Airman for its fliers, but any ideas for a general name? Airperson is too PC!
Use the Army Air Corps system and call them Air Troopers
Air Warriors!
HOOOOOAHHH!
I like the idea of playing about with ranks and uniform of the RAF. If I had a pound for every time someone in the RAF says they wish there uniform was more like the RN I would be on my way to a miniature fortune.
The Blue grey thing use to work but it needs modernising. Like the idea of darker blue, this would also make gold ranks (like the RN but negative curl) to work.
As for ranks, Plt Off and Flg Off should change as mentioned before. Another annoying thing for me is Air Vice Marshal, Air Marshal, Air Chief Marshal just doesnât work to me always want to put the AM before the AVM. but Air Rear Marshal does not quite work. Any suggestions?
And before anyone mentions it no you cannot the ranks

They grow out of the navy, space travels ours! we know how to operate ships.

Squadronaire?

To be honest I dont see the point in it why do you need to show someone is a tech trade when are an SAC I could understand it with JT as it is a higher rank than SAC but SACâs are SACâs no mater the trade I rememeber a new SAC (T) trying to tell one of my guys what to do as he was a " higher rank" both were SACâs.
that turned into a rant sorry!
Well our most ceremonial uniform is a bit drab really. We should at least nick the Musicianâs clothes, or bring back (and modernise) the Full Dress Uniform the RAF had in the 1920s.
And the women⌠well, No. 5 + woman = frumpy nun.
But the ranks are okayâŚexcept Chief Technician, which seems to exist in itâs own little world of tech.
I thought SAC(T)'s had attained operational performance standard and can work unsupervised whereas a standard SAC requires an JT or above to supervise their work.
How about
Army have SoldiERS
Navy have SailORS
Air Force have AirERS!
