SAC(T)s still need supervision unless granted self-supervision for certain tasks. JTs needed (are there any still left?) a special authorisation to supervise SACs or other JTs.

Exactly right SAC’s and SAC (T) both need self supervision auth to do it and this isn’t given out very often as for JT’s I know of one but he will be out soon cant be that many more left
[quote=“cygnus maximus” post=9374]I always think that whilst our No 1 uniform style generally looks ok, the colour is poor and it needs something to ‘show it off’. The colour should be darker blue (along the lines of the RAAF colour) and a ‘Sam Browne’ would finish it off. I remember seeing some pictures of RAF officers in India in the ‘20s or ‘30s wearing Sam Brownes and they looked good (Wilf might have them!). I also think that the high collared Army ‘Blues’ look really smart too - Bandsmen used to wear them, so why not others?
As for No 5s? Awful. Again, darker blue and while we’re at it, change the style for a high collar with plain front ‘Mandarin’ shirt like the Army Air Corps. Rank braid should be plain silver on the working blue uniform, gold on No1s and toned down for combats (as we’re seeing on MTP).

Darker blue with silver rank braid. I think you’ll find that’s British Airways.
No 1s - no point changing them. They’re perfectly good.
No 2s - well, we may end up with some PCS based system to replace the jumper merry go round. As long as aircrew have somewhere to put their brevets. Whilst were at it, allow the day-to-day wearing of medal ribbon on the chest.
No 5s (and No 8s )- I agree. Back to the prewar high collar design. Far more military in style.
As for Rank, Plt Off/APO is pretty much an administrative rank only in the regular forces, so will really only be seen in the Reserves, UAS and Air Cadets. If you want to boost the RN’s street cred, you could opt to rename Fg Off as Flt Sub Lt, but I doubt it would achieve anything.

Got to agree mostly with Chaz…
But: change No 1s. They look like Army No 2s and aren’t smart/formal enough next to the other service’s No 1s.
And have KD for summer wear. Or all year round.
If we look carefully at the RAF now we could just rename some existing ranks.

Make all ranks below Sgt some variation on ‘mate’.
We can pretend that it’s a throwback to the RNAS, and junior ranks can go on addressing each other as they usually do - but officially!

Like it!!
Actually, ‘Mate’ could work across all ranks, equal, above and below; whether you’re an officer or airman.
There would be a few exceptions though where ‘Boss’ may be needed (Stn Cdr). The only ‘Sir’ I can think of would be directed at the SWO.
