Was my thinking too when I saw it happened in Russia, rather than in Africa where he’s allegedly been lately.
Although Russian air defence hasn’t exactly been amazing recently.
Suspicion from some media sources that the main man might have been on a secondary aircraft.
Either a bomb or a shoot down from the limited video clips that are surfacing.

Could be interesting to see how groups of Wagner react either way; they were far more loyal to Prigozhin than to Putin.
If they do believe that Prigozhin was assassinated by Russian authorities, I wonder if they still have enough centralised coordinating abilities to make their disquiet known.

Some videos circulating of his convoy speeding through moscow to the Kremlin around midnight Russian time.
Ukraine are claiming that some Wagner convoys are heading through Belarusian territory toward Russia, with Belarusian special forces attempting to stop them. They’re citing pro-Ukrainian Belarusian assets.
The was a Russian official on the radio this morning. He was adamant that Ukraine did it.

Reading that report, I’m not sure that the pilot was going rogue. Sounds more like the controller may have been, deliberately using ambiguous language to cover his backside if the Kremlin disagreed with his decision.
“You have your target” is a fairly ominous statement.

Pretty crazy. If that missile had landed, it likely would have likely killed 30 NATO personnel. I think things would have escalated significantly…
