This is why the pedantic insistence on ‘Great Britain’ only applying to a single island, when the united kingdom of Great Britain was formed from the kingdoms of England and Scotland (which included all their islands) is nonsense.

I think this where you have the Island of GB vs the kingdom of Great Britain similar to how the island or Ireland ≠ the country of Ireland.

Indeed, but the kingdom of Great Britain ceased to be in 1801 when the kingdom of Ireland was added. Adding ‘and Ireland’ at that stage, instead of just keeping the original name (as England had always done when acquiring Wales, Cornwall, etc.), is what led to all these arguments today.
