BPSS etc

although it seems to ask the same info, apparently it’s not accepted :man_facepalming: :cold_sweat:

Somehow I’m not surprised…:unamused:

not a process

Well it was 2 years ago when I posted that

I’ve been told that HQAC are adamant that an OC can’t supply a personal reference for a CFAV on the squadron. Anyone else come across this. Asking for a friend.

Been told direct opposite.
And provided references no issue.
Sounds like nonsense.

Getting really fed up with all this now. Thanks for the input @Paracetamol

By whom?

Via WHQ who spoke to a WO who deals with vetting at HQAC

I don’t think I had a Staff Cadet who’s references weren’t from members of staff.

Apparently it’s ok for cadets as they might not have an employer. I can’t see why it wouldn’t be ok for a personal reference. I’ve looked at ACP20 guidance and there’s nothing to say we can’t.

Likewise, we use 2 CFAV references for staff cadets. Not had any problems

The BPSS is for an adult member of staff

I’ve always been told it’s okay. In fact I know of the WExO being a reference for a member of staff which I thought was odd.

Doesn’t matter as they don’t seem to check the references down here anyway :man_shrugging:

Even then as long as you have known them long enough it shouldn’t be an issue.

Unless you are the one certifying the BPSS? In which case I can see why they wouldn’t want you to be a referee and the independent person as it could be seen as a conflict of interest.

Not like they checked it, popped it back in the post and told me we’d need another reference

Oh I see, wow. Yeah, AFAIK an OC, or any member of staff, can be a reference as long as they meet the normal criteria. Being a fellow CFAV makes no odds. I’ve been a reference for a staff cadet as I meet the regular criteria. I’ve known them long enough and meet the ‘recognised professions’ for reference as a ‘person of standing’.

I just double checked and there is nothing in the BPSS form that says an OC can’t be a reference.

Just echoing others, but we’ve used squadron staff for both cadet & staff applications.

@JoT Sounds like a possible question for VoV? Yet another example of a ‘simple’ process being made harder by differing policy in different areas.

Hold on a minute, BPSS is done and dusted as the deadline has August 21.

So this must be for a brand new member of staff, does the individual in question know them for the required time?
