Jesus, who gives these idiots power?
That would be my response!
It wouldn’t be mine, i would turn up to the parade with a full beard and have the argument, i would even print out the dress regs and pass them to the wing commander if he said something.
I’m sure the RAF regs say they can’t be growing a beard and having formal parades but once the beard is grown it wont be an issue.
I suspect the Wing commander would lose that battle if he tried to challenge someone.
Is a parade an appropriate place to have that discussion?
It would be if the Wing Commander started it.
If the Wing Commander thinks that a car park, in No1’s, 10 minutes before a parade is an appropriate place for someone to have a shave, then it’s an appropriate place to have a discussion about whether the W/C has the slightest understanding of what they are spouting off about.
Turnabout is fair play…
i can’t speak for your Wg OCs, but based on ours, too afraid of their own shadow to start a difficult conversation it would be delegated to the WWO.
and they would be right to do so. if the Wg OC is on parade i would expect the WWO to be attending too…and as such more appropriate the WWO has a word to correct any issues regarding dress and discipline.
so as correct as the responses would be above, i would hope your WWO would be offering the to the Wg OC on your behalf long before you had chance to raise the discussion
(for reference our WWO is awesome and very much on the ball, i know of three beards in the Wing already, and although not all “neat” (too soon perhaps) they are well within the regulations.)
if the Wg OC is on parade
That’s hilarious. Tell me another!!
After reflecting on the Boss’s Mutual Respect email, i would like to add the following statement…
I was surprised at just how many people jumped straight in and started growing.
I didn’t realise beards were so desperately wanted… God knows why?
My OC has gone for one… A ginger beard. It makes him look like a garden gnome. I want to get him a wooly hat and a fishing rod.
Why so surprised? If, like me, you’ve been a cadet since 13, you’ve probably never been anything other than clean shaven excepting holidays. (I didn’t grown one as a CI because I couldn’t back then!)
What I’m enjoying most is the lack of a shaving rash, acne and ingrown hairs, it’s freedom! (I’m also getting a not inconsiderable amount of compliments, which makes a change.)
I just didn’t realise that beards were so popular.
You must have been walking around with your head in a bucket! The hipster fad has made them all the rage in the last few years.
I thought we all “had a go” at Christmas to make the best of not having to…
It was quite interesting seeing if I could manage a new pb during the 3 weeks or so I had no responsibilities.
The hipster fad has made them all the rage in the last few years.
Ah, well… I was ignoring “hipster beards” because they’re utterly ridiculous.
I was referring to average men wanting real beards which I didn’t realise was so popular
I thought we all “had a go” at Christmas to make the best of not having to…
I can manage about 5 days maximum before it gets on my nerves.
I can manage about 5 days maximum before it gets on my nerves.
same.
You have to push through that stage
You have to
You really don’t!
Like many other things which are displeasing, it is often the correct choice to give up then instead of developing some sort of tolerance.
I have one as I’ve not been able to grow much in the way of hair on the top of my head since my early 20s, so have the beard as compensation.
Nothing wrong with a ginger beard either! Although mine has acquired a lot more white of white since I last grew it out before I commissioned.
I want to see the first Gibbons and Hill.
I tend to agree with @wdimagineer2b God knows why anyone really wants one? The only people I know who grow beards are on religious grounds, have “baby faces” and need to look grown up or more recently to go with the fashion. Which is all this is, the MoD catching up 5 or however many years it is since we’ve had the hipsters idiots. Next year clean shaven will be the thing and all the fashionistas will be buying razors and moisturiser rather than beard products.
I don’t know about 5 days, a long weekend is enough for me.
