Facial hair’s just as subjective as any other aspect of appearance. Some people look good and like beards, some don’t. This doesn’t seem like a thing worth debating.
Quick check - so do we have to write a letter requesting permission to grow a beard or a letter stating our intentions to do so? Or do we not inform anyone at all. I remember seeing an IBN talking about permissions, but I just want to be clear.
I’ve heard both so I’m a little confused.
Technically you are requesting permission. I did it by email.
So I need to write a letter requesting permission and then await a response to do so?
Did you wait for a response saying go ahead or did you just crack on?
I’d been growing mine for 3 weeks before I asked as I was away most of August
Tbh, I know a few for whom this was essentially the case.
I’m just not sure whether to just email saying ‘this is my intention’ and then grow one or email and await permission. Seen plenty in our wing already.
I emailed for permission, but had been away for two weeks beforehand and therefore had a two week head start. Almost 6 weeks in now, it’s going well.
this is an odd one.
if its been sanctioned that is can be done…why do people need to ask for permission??
is any WWO/OC Wg really likely to say “no”?
surely it is an email/correspondence as FYI this is what I am doing/btw, I am going to be “one of those” who grows a beard?
Not refuses to allow to grow. Fairly sure a RC would tell relevant person to follow the process
I do know of someone in my region who was told to shave after failing to grow to standard after the 2 week window and ultimately quit.
quit growing the beard or quit the RAFAC?
Beards not permissible for years: “No problem”
Rubbish beard not acceptable: “see ya”
Totally makes sense.
If quit the RAFAC then the individuals priorities are definitely questionable… We’re here for the cadets not to keep fluff on our faces because it suits…
Quit rafac
I quit growing my beard twice a week. I call it “shaving”
Not necessarily. Straws and camel’s backs spring to mind.
More like toys out of the pram.
+1 vote for this.
I know a selection of very capable, competent and respected CFAVs who ended up leaving over what was a teeny tiny little disagreement but was the 1000th cut which proved fatal.
if this was the sole reason, it does seem out of proportion, but with (full) context difficult to offer a reasoned response.
I can see it. Never being allowed a beard because you’ve been in the organisation since before you could grow any sort of one, being told you’re allowed a beard, and then being told you’re not allowed one because yours is awful could do things to somebody’s motivation.
