Beard

There’s someone I know that I doubt actually read the regs and went right ahead with a Goatee!

Do you mean beards in general or that initial fluff?

Will be interesting to hear about how that’s managed? Will any one have courage to say thats not in regs so need to remove, then what happeneds in the fall out after.

Luckily I believe that beard applicants in my wing have decided to maintain it to regulation.

I doubt he even asked. There’s a chat scheduled.

Is the chat about “following the rules” or “a goatee makes you look like a nugget”?

Although he is breaking the rules, i would be starting with the latter.

It’s not exactly difficult. ‘Here’s the policy, it says full set, shave.’

It looks like the last shave they had done was by a drunk chap with a rusty bic and I had a nose through his FB and looks like he’s going to struggle with a full set beard. But it’s not my job to tell him ‘Computer says no’

If you read Arrse website that is the image conjured up in the NAFFI bar thread of t’the ‘Emperor Mongs pronuncements’ of the Emperor.

I should dig-out some of my old late 1970s->mid-90s photos of Royal Observer Corps personnel in RAF uniform, with beards. Strange that we were so far ahead of the curve, back then.

[ps Similarly, the ROC was half-a-century ahead of the big air force, in terms of gender integration…right the way through WW2 and into the Cold War, men & women were equal members of the same organisation…no ‘parallel processing’ with WRAF/WRAuxAF/WRAFVR(T) etc ]

Until 1980 the PMRAFNS was an all female part of the RAF as male nurses were part of the Med Tech branch. Some PMRAFNS officers in particular were not happy having men enter the branch. But in contrast the PMs had the first male in any of the three services as Matron in Chief (MiC) Director of Nursing Serices Air Cdr Bob Williams.

Sorry thread drift.

What were their rules on beards?

I’m sure plenty of them were beards for male officers.

They were unofficial I believe.

Was there really a separate WRAFVR(T) branch?

Umm, beards?

Schmeards. Though I did meet my first RAFAC officer with a beard at the weekend, and our TEST Sgt (FTRS) has gone straight for the beard option.

Have heard of a WingCo saying that CFAV can have beards (if they meet…Yadda Yadda), but that they must be clean shaven for any formal parade

How many of the CFAVs in the wing are planning on simply not turning up for formal parades on that basis?

I wonder if he’s met Prince Harry yet?
