I read the other week that Guides have a badge for making mocktails.
This seemed a lot more interesting than the sort of thing we have badges for. Definite some training for life as well.
Maybe we need some badges that aren’t so academic. Radio, leadership etc all very wholesome, but where’s the fun?
We already have enough badges for the current syllabus where the cadets actually learn something useful.
We don’t need badges for mocktails.
They struggle to make tea let alone letting them loose with cordial and such!
I think some of the PTS badges are good but maybe some of the syllabus can be tweaked to make them more transferable into civvy street/life skills
Think they might be waiting a while…
@Valiant I just thought it sounded fun and light, something missing from the air cadet syllabus. Which is you have to agree very heavy, despite trying to make it not so. As soon as you put in levels of assessment it becomes heavy and a learning task.
@AlexCorbin Some will argue the leadership etc transfers into real life, ignoring that you need to become competent in the job and nuances therein of what you do, before even getting to a point where you might be regarded as having leadership potential. Also in the workplace it’s not as cuddly as cadets, with people lauding you, as 100 good things, gets less than the one mistake.
While what kids might do in cadets, scouts etc can give them an edge, it does little more. The PTS subject areas are IMO far too niche and with far too much of a military twist (obviously) and would need to be tweaked a lot to make them more relevant / transferable. Very few places outside of emergency services need radio knowledge.
Cyber? First aid?
Oh for god sake.
Words cannot describe how stupid this is getting
I’ve got some high achieving cadets at my place - as I’m sure we all have - and they’ve got pretty much every badge available. There’s literally no space left.
Pretty sure nothing’s changing. I think that CVQO are getting ideas above their station.
I’m assuming the ACF have them (or are getting them?) and they are hoping we adopt them too.
The badges look like they are for blanking plates as there are tiny.
Christ. NO.
If it gets to the point where cadets need to be wearing two brassards in order to display all their badges, then it’'s tacky.
I already feel the same about Lord Lieutenants Cadets. The double brassard looks awful.
I agree. I don’t see why they need to wear it unless in official duties
The staff thing is really good thank you our staff are never in uniform I may ask if it is possible.
Thank you
No worries!
PM sent.
Personally this is an achievement and should be displayed at all times. I think it is a better achievement to get than the internal awards as it can or should expose cadets to a lot of different people in their local community. If you said you were LLC the majority would understand who the LL is or at the least recognise then as someone important. Dacre outside the club who knows or cares.
“I was the best cadet in the country out of 30 000”
I see what you mean - ambiguous, no context, and not something anyone would ever care about…
I would implement a blue road marching badge. The standard would be simply attending a training event. Then we may actually have some more kids coming along and seeing what it is? It won’t take up a slot, as we already have Bronze, Gold and Silver (in order of difficulty )
