Bader Squadron Management System v5

And it also should stop some of the regular parent moans of “why isn’t my child doing any of the activities, have you got anything going on?”.

Only time will tell.

Give me a “scrap of paper” any day. We have had computerised systems at work for over 30 years and it’s all fine, when it works. When it doesn’t it all stops, except for those of us with “scraps of paper” or the equivalent of in terms of knowledge and understanding.

Let’s face it when there is a Bader outage people get excited, I do as well as I haven’t got to bother with it.

@GrandMaster_Flush The main reason cadets don’t do things is the parents, as they won’t take them, plus they don’t encourage them to attend the squadron. So parents saying “why isn’t” elicits the response if they came to the squadron on a regular basis, they would know what’s going on and something which equates to staff are not a taxi service. As I say why bother coming to the squadron when it’s all online. Might not be right away, but id it gets used it will dilute the importance of squadrons. You could probably have ‘depots’ as opposed to squadrons where cadets go to get some kit, go home and do things online or training shown on their portal.

Bolleaux.

Might be the case for you, but given you hate children, the ATC, the RAF and everything in between, maybe it’s just because those parents don’t like you…?

You despise everything. So leave. We don’t need or want you.

This was my point

Except that I run sector events on a regular basis, and it’s always the same units that actually turn up - and it’s usually parents who take them.

Either 50% of squadrons are somehow filled only with cadets with uncooperative parents and the other 50% aren’t, or it’s Occam’s Razor and it’s the unit that’s the bottleneck.

Parents don’t seem to have an issue taking them to NCO courses either and for some units that’s close to 2hrs to our venue

I had a parent happy to drive their cadet and three others on a 7 hour round trip (and then collect) for supercamp.

Nearly every parent I know is grateful for the chance to send their little urchins away for a day or two for less than what the aforementioned darlings would cost them just for breakfast.

And if cadets aren’t regularly attending your Sqn, I’d put money on it not being because of the parents.

Reasons cadets don’t attend activities:

  1. They don’t know about it
  2. They don’t know what it is
  3. Staff don’t sell it well enough (not enough enthusiasm or information)
  4. They’ve been before and don’t like it
  5. Someone else had been before and didn’t like it.

  1. No transport available from either:
  • Corps
  • Region
  • Wing
  • Sector
  • Sqn
  • Sqn Staff
  • Neighbouring Sqn
  • Neighbouring Sqn staff
  • Parents
  • Another Cadet’s parents
  • Parents of a Cadet at another Sqn
  • A road legal cadet
  • Falcor

“Can’t get there” is only an excuse if all options are exhausted.

I second that, We have parents post on FB after every event or activity thanking us and saying about how much we are appreciated to give their cherubs the chance to go where we advertise. If we have no staff who can transport then we ask other Sqn’s going and so on.

I would say it stops with sqn staff and other parents. Yes camps etc I feel that other should be doing the transporting by whatever means. We get cadets who represent region each year in sport and that’s warrants and coaches.
Ask another squadron no, as they have their own problems and it’s not right to push your problems their way.
As a parent whose children did things which meant one or both us taking them, you wouldn’t ask or expect someone from another club to take them.
I’ve got and had parents who don’t have a problem taking theirs and being a taxi for others for the same event and this I feels creates an expectation that this will always happen.
Of course parents are happy, we’re doing their job for them. Being a parent brings times when you split yourself and not expect others to do it for you. As a parent you should want to take your kids to so things. One of the problems we have in the ATC is that there are too many courses etc which are in the backend of nowhere, starting and finishing at times which are not conducive to drop off, hang around and take them home.
So maybe the answer is don’t have so many courses / events that are at times which are not convenient, do not go on longer than needed and in paces where there isn’t something else to do for a few hours.

Back on topic please

Is the attendance register going to be improved, it is so slow and ‘clunky’

If you run activities on parade nights, then it won’t affect attendance,

Register completely broken for us last night, couldn’t create a new one at all. Error messages on every attempt from every account on the squadron.
