And now the Army Cadets have the MyCadet app… which includes an online payment system.
Sigh.

With the dev work already done, how difficult can it be to leverage this for RAFAC cadets?
With the current one committee per unit model, this would be a nightmare as 900 ways of doing payments.
Personally I think we should enable the wider mass to vibe code using AI then accepted features for through
I work for a software company. Have limited coding knowledge or background. But I’m allowed to build features for out SaaS solutions that get submitted for review…basically making sure It doesn’t break anything..
With the concepts of Cursor or Claude Code, theres no real reason why speed to development can’t be massively expedited.
In the word of my CEO developing without AI is like trying to now your lawn with scissors
You do spy me in the background! I was invited along with my counterpart from the Army Cadets.
It was really interesting to speak to VCC CFAV about how they operate, whilst still a sponsored cadet force, they have 1 permanent staff member, very little public funding, no VA. They’re a very small organisation but like our CFAV doing everything they can to create opportunities for cadets.
It was also a great event to see!
We have looked at this, our non public fund model makes this very difficult currently. The ACF operate on a completely different model when it comes to how they manage non-public funds.
Units can sign up for and use the Gov Pay service but we don’t have a mechanism to integrate it with Bader currently as it doesn’t have a mechanism for us to add 900+ different bank accounts.
Can you imagine the volume of Stop Notices the RAFAC would issue if anyone even suggested this for air cadets?
Air cadets have already been ![]()
But this is an awesome opportunity for the ACF.
That we have to refer to something the org did 8 years ago to just match what the ACF are doing today speaks volumes about the decline in “Venture Adventure”
This is exactly what we should be using our ambassadors for! Only last night I saw Van Tam on my feed too!
More than once in fact; we took a group to EBC as acclimatisation for Island Peak.
I’d rather an expedition round Svalbard. Lovely place, I just want an excuse to go back. ![]()
CFAV Onboarding, They have been brillantly transparent with me in this battalion, and the Lt Col for this Bn seems a hell of a lot more approachable and respect(ful/able) than the current CO for the Wing I was Thinking of going back to…
I think this comes down to bad eggs runing it for all.
CFAVs are always mix quality you get some amazing staff who are in it for the cadets or you get some staff who are in it for one type of activity and don’t care about the cadets themselves.
I know the army cadets have really struggled in this area with CFAVs and them being poor quality for a few years now and it seems like in your experience you have it the other way around whats a shame.
But also as cadet organisations that run completely on voluntary basis we think we would encourage it more so that more people join back.
One thing the ACF seem to do quite well is a mandatory training package that is provided regularly and trains CFAV up on all the basic stuff that needs to be provided at a local level.
I’ve never done the CIC, so I don’t know how it compares, but I think they put two weekends into all the basic stuff so their CFAV can hold their own and actually teach it.
I keep meaning to find out more.
Broadly but I suspect there is some local variation.
I’ve seen some of their (and CCF) initial training and it is pretty limited in scope but does at least get people to a starting point.
The part that I liked the sound of was their commissioning process, which ran (runs?) over a year with a weekend at each end and local training and mentoring, including project work, in between.
In theory our commissioning process can be quicker but there is a lot of local variation too, and on balance a structured programme seems beneficial.
