They qualify for OSMs, but I refer you to my answer above.
Quite right, we arenāt Veterans, we are uniformed youth workers. The only Veterans in our organisation are those have served in the actual military at some point.
so would gamers suffer similar effects ??
I have never claimed tobe a Veteran and certainly will not be applying for a card (not even a railcard),
i simply said that I was proud to be Vaugely associated with the RAFVR !!
Are gamers dropping real bombs on real people in a real high-stress environment?
In my mind a veteran is someone who has stood up as partnofbtheor recruitment process and completed the attestation.
As volunteer youth workers we dont make any such oath despite our Cadets doing so.
If you plan on being a tourist in the US of A, then āveteranā status can save you quite a few $$$.
Most major attractions give veteran (& military) discount, including Disney, via a āmilitaryā outlet:
Shades of Green is located near Disney Florida - if eligible, accommodation is available too.
To be fair though, a āveteranā now is not what it used to be. A lot of veterans around now did 2 years national service. You can claim a veterans badge with 1 day of service. Donāt get me wrong, Iām not knocking anyone, if you volunteer to join and get a start date thatās more than most people would do. BUT I think you should at least have passed initial training to be classed as a veteran. BTW, this is based on my previous civil service role, where I worked with lots of veterans who had done far less time than any CFAV with 1 year service, but still wanted all the perks and support as if they had served operationally. Also, Iām not saying we should get a badge, or a veterns card, but a retired CFAV card or soemthing smilar, after all, we volunteer and put up with a lot to be members of the organisation. They want us to be bound by āmilitaryā rules and processes.
We can have bronze, silver and gold tiers of being a veteran;
Gold - Warzone experience
Silver - Regular or reserve, but not deployed to warzone
Bronze - CFAV
Yes, I am being sarcastic.
Having been in RAFG when IRA shootings were regular occurrences, thatāll count too!
Rather scary times.
What about those of us in Akrotiri on camp during Op Telic? Dangerous times with all those WMDs
You should have tried being posted to Bedfordshire. Some of us actually did end up getting shot at on a night outā¦
Well, Iād filled up with my tax-free fuel coupons - & about 5 mins later, this happened.
Several car loads of us retuned from Roermond, got to Bruggen to hear the hooter sounding. We had all just missed this.
Last, but by no means least, I knew the Army major pretty well from Service shooting ; his father Jack (ex-RAF) died far too soon afterwards - said to have been from a broken heart. Jack is remembered outside RAFSAA at Bisley - tree with plaque.
Oooo, iāll look forward to my Bronze Badge
Blue of course for those who apply for CFAV but donāt pass AVIP
