Why can’t we do this? - looks like we’re missing a trick and failing behind on our media.

I have always wondered why I’ve never seen an ATC TV advert, seems like such a good idea. And nowadays there could be website ads as well. :?
They’ve clearly produced that a few years ago.
L98A1s and a number of Sussex staff who I recognise. One guy I know is in there as a Captain - he was promoted to Major at least 4 years ago, if not more.
You would hope that our media bods were aware of what ‘the competition’ was doing at the time. Which really does make you wonder why we haven’t done something on a par.
It’s a really nice video. Too long for T V obviously, but I would love to see something similar made for us.
These sort of things are OK as long as you create a new one every few months, because no matter what the message is, it soon becomes stale and irritating, especially on TV, with the growth in ‘commercial’ channels in the last few years, with satellite and digital.
The Corps has dabbled with promo videos and they’ve dated almost as fast as yesteday’s news.
On top of this is the length which influences cost of making and showing at a time when people might be watching plus a premium applied to different areas. On ITV a 30 second advert shown between 1800 and midnight could cost for national coverage between £30K and £60K per showing. Daytime is cheaper but would it have any impact?
Also the length determines how much people will take in. If I’m watching a programme I want adverts over as quickly as possible, not a documentary.
The ACO did do a TV adult staff recruiting campaign several years ago. Unfortunately, I don’t think HQAC had the money to either make an advert with real impact or show it at peak times on the big channels. I saw it once on one of the satellite documentary channels and didn’t think much of it.
But we could still benefit from good media like this. It could used as a backdrop at recruiting events.
Why don’t we have a dedicated ACO recruiting team that turn up to major events around the UK.
I feel that there is very little support in all kinds of recruiting and most squadrons are left to reinvent the wheel in effective outcomes.
What does the ACO, Region or Wing do on national volunteer week? From Government down to local Councils they put on fairs to help people volunteer.
I personally feel more could be done, yet again the ATC is the UKs best kept secrete.
There’s a ‘National Volunteer Week’?
Whilst TV advertising is expensive, putting such a video out with the ACO online presence would be less so.
It does seem that recruitment, in particular staff recruitment, is a secondary consideration.
The part that also got my attention was the fact the Youtube channel was called ‘ACFVolunteers’ - the RAF has a channel but there is nothing regarding cadets and the ACO doesn’t seam to have an equivalent.
If you type a ‘Air Cadets’ into youtube what comes up are a variety of mish-mash videos some relevant to us, most not and all from different sources. Surely a dedicated media channel (Air Cadet News Channel??) would allow a more professional presentation to the general public.
I see a gap in the market - step in ACC!
National volunteer week seems to be focussed in my borough on local organisations and then it’s a lot of ethnic minority, pensioner and, disabled clubs/groups and so on, there are others like hospices and hospital volunteers but nothing national. I did approach them to advertise us and although they did it, they didn’t feel we would appeal to the sort of people they have enquire, especially after I went through the process to become a member of staff. They told me that they majority of people they have enquire expect some degree of admin, but do expect to be doing it within a couple of weeks and that includes CRB/DBS.
Frankly we can advertise all we like on TV, on the web, cinemas, magazines, etc, etc, etc it won’t make any difference, as when someone turns up they are faced with an application process that is far too lengthy and convoluted. The majority of jobs working with children do not involve a process as convoluted and overly complicated as ours seems to have become. People fully accept the clearance side of things, but a system that is so bound up by a paperchase, is so 1940s.
My children apply for jobs and they’re all filled out electronically and emailed, and most times not a penned signature in sight. They make CVs almost redundant, apart from being a source of material to copy and paste. Having said that the ones they have shown me in Word are a sea of text boxes or have some odd lay outs / formatting, a bit like some of the forms we have in the ATC. Where it seems someone has taken the old paper form and hasn’t got the ability in standard software to produce something more usable.

Should we expect any different?
I preferred his thinly veiled threats towards cadets facetube pages myself!
And back on topic, with personal attacks removed please.
With the, as mentioned on here, initative at HQAC to address recruitment and retention of staff as a priority, a no commment from a member of that organisation can be read two ways and many years experience would not give it the benefit of doubt and read it positively, which is a real shame.

Personally I feel we should have a presence at all teaching “union” conferences every year, with CAC making presentations.
What would be considered a major event that would have a real national impact and not just among the ‘specialists’ drawn there? By this I mean air shows, which do attract a certain niche group, in the main.
Personally I would like to get some (preferentially) financial support for producing my own recruiting paraphanalia. While a national campaign via whatever media would initiate things, I want potential recruits coming direct to me, not Wing, Region or Cranwell.
Filming taking place - soon.
Would you care to share some details? The format? The message? The scripting team? Who was consulted? Who is leading it? Is it being sponsored?
Is this in anyway linked to the chap from RIAT 2012 where they got all the old AEF aircraft flying in formation?
