This looks fantastic. The blue hat with khaki rog looks rubbish
“you appear to be wearing the wrong colour beret”
“oh no sir, I can assure you I am not”
I don’t think the Khaki Drill hat is a legitimate thing. I think it’s a reeanactmentism.
those photos look like someone has taken them with a flash on and the “uniform” is made of that reflective material that shines back
Saw an interesting rank slide today on LinkedIn.
A lot of foreign air forces have the light blue of the dual-tone bands a bit thicker and bolder and the removal of the default background of composite braid (which leaves everyone thinking the dark purple-blue lines are also part of the badge of rank) so it matches the rank slide background does look better imo. How it used to be.
Not sure if this is legit, but it’s clearly been made that way by a supplier.
That makes sense for barracks dress - being able to spot the rank at a distance quickly. Wouldn’t be keen on it for field use.
The sandy-coloured bars as issued when MTP first came out were great for that.
Very clear, but blending in the right amount.
I very nearly posted this
Great minds.
I shall rise to your bait, whilst wearing my pith helmet on top of forage cap!
Are pith helmets still available, the Royal Marines have them, why not the RAF.
I’m guilty of making a Flt Lt rank slide out of 2 Fg Off braids and an old Plt Off MTP rank slide. All it took was a stapler
On a separate note it really annoys me that the RAF still give you a meter of braid instead of an actual rank slide!
I shall borrow that trick in the unlikely event I ever make OF-3
I can remember seeing officer rank slides with green between the bars, back in pre-CS95 days, but never saw the equivalent on a Wedgwood blue backing. The solution to that conundrum would be shoulder boards with the same background colour regardless of the garment (like the rank slides worn by padres).
I have done exactly the same, except I paid for it. Looks so much better. Same on No1 uniform.
The Second World War?
There’s a lot going on with that PCS shirt. The name badge, the RAF tapes and the rank slide. Maybe he was an exchange officer? They tend to go a bit wild with dress regs when unsupervised
Thats one Old capbadge…
looks like hes gone in to a Surplus store and found a pre 1953 cap badge, and i love it
This
The clue is in the patch on his arm. UK Space Command do their own thing when it comes to uniform, including a black stable belt (regardless of service or corps).
It is the appropriate camo colour after all.
