All our existing boot threads are a bit old, so a new one, because mine are dying, rapidly
I need a pair of black combat boots for my PCS uniform, because the soles on my Lowas are falling off.
My last two pairs were both Lowas, purchased in my road marching days, which are sadly behind me now. So I don’t need something as expensive as they were. I used to like my issues Assault Boots and the pair of Pro-Boots I blagged once, but those boots have all long gone the way of the disintegrating soles.
I just need something comfortable, durable and black. What are people rocking at the moment?
Altberg or AKU although the latter are only issued in black to RAFP or SF however you can buy them online. I’ve had mine for about 2 years and the soles are getting a bit thin.
It had crossed my mind, but even a repair is £100+ at which point, you start to wonder if it’s worth the effort to repair what is a 15 year old pair of boots which never did fit as well as the ones they replaced?
Cobblers, I have never paid half that. Your local cobblers should be able to repair your Lowas. I have had my Mountain, Elite Lights and other makes done at my local market cobblers. They have changed hands but last time I had to by the sole unit from ebay and the cobblers charged me £25 for the work. took a couple of days. Repair Sole Unit VIBRAM (1220) Jankuat (8mm)
pre-covid i was active once a month assisting with Wing shooting (Weapons instructing more than on the range) and occasion wear on Squadron. I actively avoid FA and FC and never road marched so my use was never “hard” (with the exception of RIAT for the extended camp - and while they got heavy use there, never in “hard” conditions)
So my use has always been “light”
looking at the price difference there looks to be a large difference so as a “budget boot” Magnums all the way - but if a serious/heavy user of boots worth paying more
To be fair, this might be a part of it, an acceptance that I am no longer a heavy boots user like I once was? I used to be a committed road marcher and JL DS, so decent boots were paramount.
Whereas on Tuesday night I wore black shoes with my RNPCS, and no one even noticed!
