2024 Activity Changes

You ard correct so central funds pay for that, i thi k the question is best use of national resources. For example Coach provided fir 20+ cadets per weekend x 8, coaches declined for 1 wing to go to muster resulting in 100+ cadets missing out. Point is what is best for everyone.

Not for debate, I was reacting to the “I sm oraying for…” comment further up the thread

there is potential for trickle down training from some opportunities yet Choir and music they don’t have that

Disagree. Gold badge music camp cadets have helped run the Wing Band and are far more knowledgeable than the wing music officer :grinning: and my cadets who went on D&C camp have upped the standard of drill of the entire squadron (me included )

Perhaps there needs to be more emphasis on these benefits of national camp attendance and maybe some sort of formal instructional aspect to take back to their units (as per Gold First Aid, JL & QAIC)

In the AIR cadets…?

Believe it or not, not all cadets want to do QAIC or indeed go flying but they love fieldcraft, band and all the other great diverse activities we offer just need to workout how we can improve delivery efficiency and effectiveness.

Should they be the cadets we market to, or could that dilute our USP?

Ao join RAFAC because the only thing we want to do is fly. Mmm, whilst all realms aerospace which includesx flying and engineering should be a priority there are other opportunites available should:
A. Not be able to fly/glide, whether personal or a national pause (that is a seperate thread)
B. Cadet likes other aspects such as bands, fieldcrat, AT … the list is endless

Our USP is the diversity of opportunities available.

If HQAC get their year out right the cadets wont notice as no doubt all the squadron staff will endeavour to fill the gaps with local opportunities., well that is my hope

That’s really not unique at all though. The other cadet forces also offer a very diverse range of activities.

And with volunteer numbers being as through the floor as they are, trying to offer too much rather than specialise is a sure fire way to burn out the volunteers that we do have, making our ability to deliver activities even worse than it already is.

Yes good points - i was simply highlighting that there are courses which are experiences and others which are more training based - those that are “training a new skill” it is clearer to see how these skills can be passed on at a Squadron level.

But i do accept that those who conduct music or D&C return with valuable experience which can benefit a Squadron

What is our offer, should our offer in the RAFAC mirror the roles in the RAF?

The RAF flies, we fly,
The RAF fixes planes planes, we do classification and STEM
The RAF is big in AT, we do AT
The RAF has bands persons, we do band
There is the RAF Regt, we do field craft and shooting
RAF does sport, we do sport
RAF does cyber warfare, we do cyber defenders
RAF does Nijmegen, we do Nijmegen
RAF has space, we do space,
RAF does drill. we do drill
RAF wears uniform. so do we
RAF does remembrance, so do we
RAF does community engagement. so do we

The clue is volunteer only do what you are able to do, i dont mean for that to sound flippant as i know exactly where you are coming from as it seems it’s 70% admin 30% fun at the moment. Yes some are able to do more than others, meantime whilst we await our leaders to get their poop in order we should be able to and in fact we do offer other lots of other opportunitiesand some those will jot necessarily be aerospace centric

Spot on

Yep get the impression he’s afraid of his own shadow and parachuting regardless of how good it was deemed by Cadets and staff - ain’t never coming back.
Just another huge disappointment in a sea of despair

Here’s some detail of what is being canned next year, and what is carrying on!

I enjoy the use of the term ‘strategic pause’.

And for those without access, it’s not protectively marked, so:

Air and Space camp - Carry on
JL - Carry on
Easter Music Camp, concert/parade - Carry on
QAIC - Carry on
Gold Cyber - Carry on

RIAT - Probably fine, need tents, but not 100%.
IACE - Reduced numbers, at best.
Muster - Canx
National Comps - Canx
ACLC - Canx
Overseas Expeds - Canx
Nij - HQ not getting involved, so depends what regions do.
Super camps - Canx
D&C - Canx
Music, Choir and Strings camps - Canx
Music, pipes - Not clear, but assume canx, given the wording.
Overseas Camps - Canx

note: Canx = cancelled for 2024, not necessarily forever. But who knows…
