2024 Activity Changes

So hilariously it looks like HQAC found out we all couldn’t see the video via VRT_memes. The RAFAC HQ Marketing and Press Officer (CS) commented on the post asking why we don’t have access, as if that’s something we should know the answer too…

That comment shows as being 11 hours ago, aka around 12 noon/1pm. We had access by 9.30am or so.

I’m not sure if that makes it better or worse :sweat_smile:

I told Jarrod direct there were issues based on the posts in here so they definitely knew before that.

Yeah, I was being a bit tongue-in-cheek. I too emailed someone directly when I saw this post. The same as I emailed someone the last time this happened. (with the Comdt astra interview)

I might take the mick a lot about the problems, but I do also try to help with the solutions

Praying for full cancellation of derge like choir camp.
Cost to org per cadet is rediculous. Pump that into cyber or flying or FT or something ALL cadets can access.

Agreed vanity projects that impact less than 1% of the org need to be the first to be paused.

I quite like the choir & it should quite cheap as no need for instruments or other activities - just food & accommodation so should be simple to organise & coordinate.

…this is rafac… those 2 things result in a 6 figure bill!

Like all the national stuff the cost is the travel.

I don’t mind stuff that targets the most senior cadets in the corps, those who’ve stuck it out and deserve the reward, things like IACE, QAIC and JL but stuff like Choir and Drill can be done elsewhere.

I’d actually prefer to see JL split into ‘gold Fieldcraft’ at Regional level, purely so more cadets have access to the experience. I’m not sure what format that should take though.

Have said it before but we all see the FB post of CWO Nameless leaving the corps after 7 years where they have done IACE, ACPS, JL, QAIC, x overseas camps, y national camps, many Gold badges, LLC etc

My thoughts are well done you, but:

  • Do you have a life outside of ATC
  • Do your parents have a life outside ATC with all that driving you to activities
  • If you have done all these big ticket items how many others have missed out because you have done them all…

Whilst I like a winner and rewarding excellence, should we share the love a bit better?

Agreed, keep saying if this org was my trainset things like JL and QAIC would become schools for CFAVs to attend to deliver locally higher calibre training in those fields.

Can’t quite believe the FOI that has been submitted about this!

Dear Air Cadet Organisation,

Please provide me with emails and MS Teams from the last 6 months on discussions on the planning for the video ‘Reprofiling of HQ delivered activity in 2024’ and its impact for 2024 activities. Where an email is relevant the whole email trail should then be in scope with any attachments.

Please do your search on information held by HQ Air Cadets. If further focus is needed to reply, limit to the Commandant, the Chief of Staff, the Influence Team, Wing Commander Training Ground and those responsible for planning the following events, (1) D&C Camp, (2) RIAT, (3) the muster eg like the one at Benson this year (4) national shooting camps (ICRSM and CISSAM) (5) Nijmegen (6) the Air and Space camp (7) JL and QAIC. If you need the have a meaning for planning the events as lots of people may help plan them, unless a lead was already appointed for 2024 (when just use them) use the activity IC for the 2023 event for your search.

Yours faithfully,

Jean English

Does “Jean” realise this is likely to extend the time the HQ can’t support national activities due to the time lost for this

If you take JL and QAIC away from HQ and give it to regions, you’ll just end up reducing its access even more.
It would become a series of smaller train sets and some(many) wings and regions would just fail to deliver it.

The beauty of the system is that if a cadet from anywhere is motivated to do JL or QAIC, their wing or region is not a barrier.

Clearly an inexperienced FOIer though. The way to get it to work is to do the narrowing first (eg all info about the reprofiling held within CRAFAC’S emails) then, once that’s successful, fire in several more each narrowed down to an individual or team.

They can’t refuse the subsequent requests because they’ve proven it’s possible to answer them by answering the first.

Certainly in my area, we need more centrally organised events to reduce load on local CFAVs. You’re quite right to say that delegating the activities out to regions and below would mean a lower level of provision within my Wing.

This.

We compound winners in this org…

Just look at dacre sword and broach as examples.

But that’s to be expected, the ones who are still here after that long, and are still motivated are going to chase everything.

I’d much rather have one of those CWOs than the one I had at one unit who after 7 years had nothing on his brassard (literally nothing bar Unit and ATC identifiers, because he had a staff lanyard) and a chip on his shoulder.
