I notice she mentions nothing about the fact they’re intending to transport tonnes of nuclear waste for dumping in Lincolnshire - something that local people actually so care about - but a lot about pylons that most of Lincolnshire doesn’t care about.
But I thought all the reform voters wanted to save money? They’re always banging on about wasting tax funds. Putting them underground will cost almost 7x as much money
The project is estimated to cost circa £1Bn if done with pylons, and circa £6.5Bn to put them underground and £4.3Bn for an offshore subsea cable. But of course that isn’t mentioned here, just that pylons are somehow woke waste…
Cut and cover is quite easy, remember how much the government overpays for contracts. How do you get electricity into large conurbations, oh yes, underground, I don’t see pylons where I live. Again, where do the figures come from?
Christ, mate, I was having a crack. You don’t need to always jump to the defence every time someone on here makes any sort of joke about the right wing and start it into a proper debate. It’s like having that one mate at the pub who you have to walk on eggshells around in case you say one wrong thing and spend the rest of the night debating.
Debate is good, we don’t do enough of it in life in general. I think pylons are hideous like onshore wind farms and detract from the beauty of the countryside.
glad to see I’m not the only one who got propaganda today
“Voting Tory only gets you labour” was what we got, I mean it’s not wrong
but a lot of tory voters aren’t willing to go populist, and a lot of reform voters are too brain dead to realise that as the splinter party they’re letting labour in
It’s beautiful watching both shades of blue scramble for votes
The government cited the figures produced in the report in November 2023, when it argued that while it was possible to bury power lines, “it is up to 10 times more expensive and that cost will fall on the bill payer”
Lord Callanan(Con):
“I have a certain amount of sympathy with what my noble friend says, but the reality is that we need this new infrastructure and, unfortunately, it is not possible to say that no community will be affected. It is possible to bury power lines, of course, but it is up to 10 times more expensive and that cost will fall on the bill payer. As in many things, it is about getting the balance right.”
It’s not as simple as just spooling some copper out and putting dirt on top, even a firm which has a vested interest in pushing for buried cables admitted it would be prohibitively expensive. with installation ranging from wide isolated tunnels to run cable through ( expensive to build, plus would need to pay landowners a hell of a lot), or Gas filled pipes ( Expensive to maintain, risk of leak and contamination)
I see the benefit of Underground, but while it is this prohibitively expensive…
Doesn’t diversity include women’s rights? Or has that battle been won? The battle question was a rhetorical one. There are still many on the right who believe that a women’s place is in the house.
It’s not hard people. When I give a warning and say back on topic, if you then try and continue the conversation I’ll just delete it and start silencing people.
