A lady on the committee for a village hall asked me if I wanted some chairs as they’ve got too many. She said the village hall is licensed for 108 which shook me as the main hall alone is nearly double the size of our hut, excluding the stage and ‘games room’ off of it. The whole building bar, toilets etc is at least 3½ times the footprint of the hut and then there is a large car park. And it’s only 108 people. When I think what people cram into a hut, the mind boggles. She said their limit is due to toilets and spacing for wheelchair access. I know the mens’ has 3 urinals and two cubicles and my wife said the ladies has 3 cubicles, plus they put in 2 disabled toilets, one of which doubles as baby changing room.
I’ve declined the offer of the chairs.

Saw this story and using the picture of cadets I think is hilarious. Are there not any pictures of RAF personnel?
Other than that I think that employing people to fit any agenda is complete and utter tosh and anyone advocating it needs to be given a proper talking to.

Local Constabulary tried that a few years back - didn’t end well for them in court.

Recruitment should be blind to demographics other than age/medical and be based on merit alone.

They have generally learned the legally accountable route those days give the relevant staff association a heads up so they can prep their people through coaching sessions).

This ticked me today… In a Dad joke way…

What’s the difference between a hippo and a Zippo?

One is heavy the others a little lighter!

MML - Facebook’s algorithm having a meltdown :joy:

So equal opportunities unless your older or with a manageable medical condition? Roles should be based on aptitude

More in the case of the exemptions that are allowed to protected characteristics in the roles we were talking about - in this case Police and Military.

MML - The lecturn being used for the new PM announcement looks like a Union Flag Jenga tower that’s about to collapse. How appropriate!

It was painful listening. (Though still better than some barristers I’ve encountered . How’s the strike going?)

Same as it has since June, which is how long we’ve been doing it.

But, now that CTL extensions aren’t being nodded through, and crims will be released, the government may have to actually act!

This is what the Recorder of Bristol said last week:

“This is a completely routine type of case. The State has had many many months in which to resolve the current dispute over the requisite level of remuneration to pay in order to attract the services of barristers to act on behalf of people benefitting from Representation Orders. On the one hand the State demands trials to commence within an applicable custody time limit, and on the other it holds the purse strings for remunerating those who are required under our rule of law to be provided with advocacy services. In my view today’s predicament arises precisely because of the chronic and predictable consequences of long term underfunding. The unavailability of representation for the defendant today has arisen because of a persistent and predictable background feature of publicly funded criminal litigation.”

Essentially this is Crown Court Judge for “pull your cussing finger out you useless cusses”

Pleased to see the courts are coming round to it. Hopefully will see some movement now you’re going full time. Good luck. (Is there a strike fund?)

There is! I won’t need it thankfully/hopefully. As I’m not a purely criminal lawyer, the other strings to my bow will keep me afloat.

The problem of course is that I may get used to the affluent lifestyle of an employment lawyer, and I will be yet another criminal lawyer who can’t afford to continue to do crime!

I’ve got a probationer who can’t afford to join the DISCOUNTED rail scheme as starting pay is that low. He has to get the bus to work at double the time.

Don’t worry. Liz has this sorted; she’s going to save everything!! #fact
