You know what really makes me happy?

MMH? Johnny Mercer. Demonstrating a degree of integrity within the House. Albeit misguided.

As John Crace has said, resigning because the government has decided not to let soldiers get away with war crimes is a strange hill to die on.

It was also a bad idea for other reasons, first, it would have opened up soldiers to prosecutions in international courts, as there would be no domestic judicial process for them to go through first.
Second, limiting claims against the MOD for the acts of the armed forces would do more harm against veterans, as far more veterans and their families have sued the MOD than say, Iraqi or Afghan civilians. It was a win for the MOD’s pocket.

Such a confusion is only possible to sell as a win for the troops because people like Mercer keep confusing criminal prosecutions with civil claims.

But since when have politicians understood the laws they are voting on?

But this guy made it his mission. Somewhere there’s a video of him cross examining a solicitor about it in a parliamentary committee and just getting it all wrong.

Ironically, what Day was actually there to talk about was this: https://www.theguardian.com/law/2019/jan/08/limit-prosecutions-of-army-veterans-says-top-human-rights-lawyer?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Copy_to_clipboard

If they had gone not-guilty the riots would’ve made LA look like a bit of pushing and shoving.

Maybe not. I know that’s what the Lawyer said. He’s have to be mental to even try to.

It’s good to see football fans standing in solidarity for once.
