You know what really grinds my gears? The Gears Strike Back

Also there is this to consider as well, an alleged charge of a sexual nature and his family on social media praised the 7/10 attack on Israel.

So the response by the government to protests against banning protests is to ban more protests so that there’ll be more protests against banned protests protesting other banned protests?

No one has banned protests, what’s been banned is a group that thinks using violence including attacking police officers with sledgehammers is an acceptable way to make a political point.

Anyway it’s a non-story, the Tories already did that last Parliament, when considering conditions under section 12 and 14 of the public order act the Police can consider the cumulative effects of protest when considering if it is causing or may cause serious disruption to the life of the community.

https://www.jewishnews.co.uk/met-bans-swiss-cottage-protest-after-brief-return-to-the-area/

As an example this protest was only 1 hour per week, but the location and timing meant that it was a cumulative serious disruption to the life of the community.

Not to mention how knackered the urban police officers are.

Getting rid of Burglary Squads but still able to police a protest that most people don’t care about isn’t the best look.

Not that this sort of thing will be used to stop marches up town or protests in the Dumbbell.

Burglary is one of the crimes that really doesn’t need a constable.
It needs a civvy investigator to take statements and SOCOs.
Unless the burglars are nearby, constables are overkill.

The Met doesn’t have Civvy Investigators for some reason (CID arrogance) and traditionally Burglary has been a PIP2 investigation.

What it does need is a designated team, we have burglars who get caught every tine because the moment the Burglary yeam read the MO it’s clear who did it.

And who has just been released from prison.

I find the civvy investigator OICs are better than many of the constables who have no clue what they’re doing.

I’ve dealt with many defence briefs who fit the later category ajd that’s before we come to CPS prosecutors who are currently the bane of my existence for not actually reading case papers.

A large part of the issue with Cops is that everything was simplified under DG5 and then years later DG6 came in and over complicated everything, but with no training for anyone, so case papers went from streamlined to being more than a full file ever used to be and no one knows what they are doing.

In the Met it’s even more complicated in that PIP1 investigators used to be a seperate unit with response cops not being expected to carry crime, they just used to put the report on and it went away. That changed under Hogan-Howe, has failed spectacularly for the last decade and has now been changed back, but under resourced so is now faiking in a different way.

I swear when GDPR came in, this kind of auto opt-in wasn’t allowed? It has to be auto opt-out with an option to opt-in?

I still see a mixture all the time, where you have to tick one box and untick another to avoid spam.

It seems almost everyone has reverted back to the way it was!

It’s a common misunderstanding; consent is only one of the ways in which you can be sent these sorts of updates.

Legitimate Interest is another route (for example, if you’ve purchased something and they believe you may be interested in something related because of this - like you bought a new boiler so they message you about service plans, radiators, insulation etc because they’re all linked) - but they must enable you to object.

I get legitimate interest, and ‘soft opt-in’ but this isn’t that. Soft opt-in would be me buying a tent and then them sending me some advertising emails about nixwax waterproofing or a ground sheet for it.

This is suggesting by not checking the box, ill get marketing, news, info and offers about Gatwick Airport, when all I’m doing is paying for parking!

“legitimate interest” is one of my biggest bugbears.

If I object to targeted advertising cookies then your alleged “legitimate interest” can do one as well, because that’s exactly the same just one step removed. A second cousin is still a cousin.

Since we’re on advertising, Taboola. Gdamn Taboola (and similar ad services). The absolute dregs of the internet just spamming nonsense.

And another thing…

“Before you go…”

No, not “before I go”. I’ve seen what I wanted to see, now I’m leaving. I had a good experience on your site up until now, gathering the information I was interested in and ignoring the Taboola ads. I’ve already spent an additional 30 seconds on your site while I worked out if an infographic was part of the article or an advert, you don’t get to hold me captive for 5 more seconds to show me something I don’t care about.

I hate it when I try to back out of a website and they keep me locked into a re-loading loop…

3 hours on the phone with a Senior IT Engineer to fix critical software on 8 pieces of critical hardware that a different IT team broke when they incorrectly pushed an update that they were told not to push at a time a different update was being pushed.

Vodafone by any chance?
