You know what really grinds my gears? The Gears Strike Back

In my line of work I come across market competition quite a lot. Without going into any detail, the IoW ferries seem to land in my inbox weekly…

The Supreme Court judgment on Car Finance, that would have been a nice boon.

Feels a lot like “the system” looking out for the men with money at the expense of the average person. Again.

To be honest, a lot of the Court of Appeal’s reasoning was a bit tenuous.

Why was their original formation certificate in the trailer…
Surely in a frame on a wall is more appropriate. Or at least stored sensibly somewhere!

I’d read that they having to use the trailer for storage while work was done on the building.

I’m preparing a trial for tomorrow. it was listed in September of last year and it doesn’t have a court.
Bristol Crown Court has ten court rooms, three tomorrow are not sitting. a fourth is only sitting for two hearings at 2pm.
Of the remaining 6, one is doing all the duty work, sentences, first appearances etc. 5 are hearing trials.
One trial is part way through and has been going on for months.

So that leaves four courts starting new trials. My trial, is the second of three spare trials, so I need half of the new trials tomorrow to not start before I can work this week.

So, still no court. case adjourned until April.

Is there some national internet blackout just hit? Our whole estate seems to have lost internet, but phone lines still work. Downdetector shows massive spikes across the board.

And the 4G tethering is now slow as hell too, likely as everyone has gone over to mobile data locally.

People still have phone lines?

GMG. PowerLine adaptors. Specifically, the impact of electric fans and motors on the signal quality.

Today I have a choice. Stay cool or have internet. I can’t have both.

Have you got a UPS? If you do, plug the fan into that. It should reduce the noise being fed back into the house

I’ve made the kids switch to USB fans and battery packs. Seems to work OK!

As one of those annoying digital nomad types who works out of a backpack, I’ve requisitioned a corner of the air conditioned gym coffee bar as my office.

If anything it is too cold!

Removing the self-serve report a bug feature on CP/VP and telling all cadets now to go to their OC/staff who then have to report it for them. This isn’t helpful for admin burden, and given that the Helpdesk is at best keeping their head above the water this feels like a sure fire way of problems just going missing.

But, by the sounds of it they were going missing anyway…

Despite being logged in a database, with a clearly identifiable user and confirmation of screen they were on

Or deleted/ignored - the only explanation for what I experienced when reporting an issue.

Yes, I don’t understand how that happens.

And if anything surely it will now be worse given they’ll be sent to a generic inbox of an understaffed team. I was lucky to get responses to all the stuff I sent in before, now if you flood that with other things it’s going to be worse.

Don’t know/not in the loop - but could cadets have been using self-serve/report bug to ask “how to’s”?? Which probably just generated additional noise for the helpdesk which may have been best served being dealt with at a lower level???
