@Cab maybe something to take forward with the RIAT???
But it’s ok, there is free park & ride from Cheltenham racecourse at an estimated 90 min trip.
And that’s before the queues I saw leaving too!!
The eu never actually gave the UK any money except for one year, as we were net contributors. They took our money and top sliced it for their own use, corrupt and otherwise, and then decided how we could spend the remainder, which they graciously gave back to us.
Are RIAT slowly killing the goose that lays the golden egg? With the draw-down over the years there are less and less aircraft to see, and you can only tolerate so many F16/18/typhoon demo’s in a day.
I stopped going years ago when the cost started rising, a weekend at RIAT costs upwards all in, including things like fuel, camping./hotel fees etc £700 plus, I can go on a week’s holiday in the sun for less.
So sad when Mildenhall stopped, £3 to walk in, USAF units ran all the burger stands and it was an amazing show.
I wonder if it is a way of stopping people just parking up, and staying in the car park to watch the air show… or even broadcast it to others.
So is the carpark before the ticket check? Then have the carpark inside the pay gate and set up mobile phone jammers. Not that this is necessarily all practical…
Yes, the car park is before ticket and bag check.
(Sat at home, watching a streamer on YouTube broadcasting live…)
Are the car park fields owned by the local farmers?
I have no idea, not having been to RIAT for a long time.
Following 9/11 RIAT were forced to move all car parking off the airfield onto rented farmers fields. Now there are far fewer aircraft attending RIAT, they have space on the airfield, in particular with the exponential increase in the number of hard standings constructed over recent years, but that may change again.
If you look at the Ted Coningsby feed, he looks to be parked at Kempsford camping at the airfield fence, nothing to stop him live feeding the show.
Mildenhall was the best
Meant to have made my way to Oshkosh today (and had tickets to the Cirrus Party) alas BA flight to Chicago after several delays, taxied out and then taxied back to the stand, crew timed out and then flight Cx’d.
No decent reroute options available, so ended up this evening in JFK, 4hrs sleep before a couple of internal flights in the AM.
One of probably a dozen near misses driving back from Bristol yesterday. Lorry deciding at the last second that they actually don’t want to leave the motorway, so made it my problem.
I swear that driving standards are going down hill, ‘professional’ drivers and ‘normal’ drivers alike.
I don’t normally bother going back and finding the dashcam footage, but a British lorry really should know better than this…
Alright Cycling Mikey stick it on the police website ![]()
Yeah, hilarious almost getting side swiped by an artic…
I’m intrigued to know which bit is funny to you; me almost getting hit or the idea of reporting traffic offenses?
No wonder driving standards are going down if the police themselves think things like this are funny.
You can clearly see the traffic is stati…oh its a pic ![]()
Contact the company with the video and the police, easy.
That will just benefit the farmers who hire their neighbouring fields (mainly for camping)
Post 2008 (the wettest year which saw it cancelled) , lot more car parking if not the vast majority are “inside the wire” (red and green car park anyway, ie arriving from the east or west)
I was listening to the RIAT Radio show as we departed on the Sunday evening and it sounded like they want to double the size of the Techno-Zone and double the number of kids attending “Futures Friday”.
That being said, I thought the Air Cadet area was pretty poor . . . Walking past, essentially all you could see was a big marquee with tables and chairs under it and some people sat or stood around talking. All the Sims stuff were hidden away in side tents and pretty much out of sight.
