Well there was another cadet event being held at the same time that I would have preferred to go to, so the “personal circumstances” thing wouldn’t have flown. It was more of a thing about being expected to attend.

The problem was the date had to be booked waaaaay in advance due to certain bigwigs being invited, though I would have cancelled it when it was clear the medals wouldn’t be available. The local reg unit didn’t have theirs either and cancelled their parade.

I recently was asked why I wasn’t at a “mandated” activity and I just said it didn’t interest me and so I’d be spending my Saturday doing something else. A little bit of mumbling but what are they going to do, sack me?
