Your school is exceptionally lucky. Our LA is bubbling away with 5-10% of each school on positive tests. We’re also down 5% on workforce - and cannot get enough supply teachers to fulfill the shortfall as they are also covering surrounding districts!
One of our largest nursery chains has closed for two weeks as they haven’t got enough staff available.
DFE have largely washed their hands of the issue. And Boris isn’t interested in taking LA level measures this time around either.
For schools the biggest issue isn’t covid in isolation. It’s covid plus whatever strain of influenza is knocking this year.
Whoever thought that Paddy McGuiness could present QofS, couldn’t have been paying attention. What a complete shambles, but I imagine he’s getting paid handsomely for messing the programme up. Hopefully he’ll lose interest in a couple of years and they can get someone who knows what they’re on about.
I tried it for 10 minutes tonight, never again until he goes.
While the money doled out since March last year has to be recouped and this will be by increased taxation, this constant blathering from all parties about “save the NHS” gets on my nerves. Before giving the NHS another penny, there needs to be a root and branch reform of its management and procurement, as this is where the money gets wasted. The request for £10,000,000,000 the other week where were the costings (not wishy washy back of a fag packet) for this or will it as I suspect, disappear and a request for a similar sum in another few weeks, as we get into the winter period.
I don’t see this 1.25% hike making the slightest bit of difference as there is no budgetary control with someone saying no you can’t have that and it will get squandered on pointless managerial appointments and uncontrolled spending as the people supplying them know they have them over a barrel and will pay whatever they say.
In my last job and this one, you are given budgets with an amount in them and that’s it, you can ask, but a waste of time.
On a train for the first time since Feb '20, despite train company saying to still wear masks, very few people are. I’m don’t like it when people don’t listen to the rules. Obviously I know they can’t enforce it though.
Another traveller is on a call and every now and again I hear a cat meowing, presumably on the other end of the call but it is a bit odd.
On the plus side, despite the warning that “in busy times you may be seated next to another customer”, I’m not.
GMG. Buying bath taps. Or, more specifically, the absolute indecision generated by Mrs BF when selecting bath taps.
Mrs BFs approach: I don’t like the feel of it. Look of it. Shape of it. Too high. Too low. Too pointy outy. Not labelled hot/cold clearly enough. Too overtly hot/cold. The mixer is clunky. It doesn’t have a mixer. No shower attachment. The shower attachment lever isn’t what I’m looking for. Delete as applicable.
I walked out of our bathroom design appointment as a result of these types of conversations pushing me over the edge… I just told boss lady not to go over a set amount and went and sat in the car
When we did our extension and internal remodel I quickly realised that “I want your opinion on the decoration/fittings/furniture etc” really means “I want you to agree with my mother’s opinion.”
And don’t forget, a bath tap has a different diameter bore to a sink tap!
I made that mistake, after replacing a bath tap with a sink tap, and having to replumb the pipes, only to open the other box to put on the sink, and had bath taps… Que un-replumbing the bath…
