Year 8 : Classification conundrum

Has anyone else realised that if you had a cadet in Yr8 join in Sep/Oct last year they have passed 1st Class and given a normal progression will potentially (depending on DoB) get through everything in the classification system will get through everything before they are 16. While not a problem at the moment it will very rapidly become one unless we lower ages for passing certain levels, as you will effectively have to stop specific cadets in the same class progressing, for no other reason than accident of birth date. Putting in ‘false’ age related blocks would be unacceptable.
We looking at our next round of classification training and came to realise we’ve got a number of cadets who this could apply to.

Not sure how this is a new thing… it happened to me when I was a cadet?

It’s been same old for years this?

This is not a new thing, the only difference is that it will now happen sooner so the hiatus will be longer. Hurrah for lowering the joining age limit…

I really don’t understand the point of age-limiting classifications TBH.

It’s completely artificial. It doesn’t fit with the model I see in school with cadets taking formal exams in the 4th year (ie 14 or 15). Frankly I think this has been to prevent cadets finishing too soon and due to the way the Corps sets its own criteria as to what cadets can/can’t do at what age and create an artificial hierarchy.
I don’t recall too many cadets passing exams rapidily under the old system, that was formally structured with exams at set points of the year, which we all worked to, even with the nonsense that was partial passes. When I was a cadet the clasification system required passing all 3 subjects at each level in one hit and cadets passing rapidly before any lower age limits was an even rarer beast, as failing one subject meant preparing for all 3 if doing a resit. However now with squadrons setting their own schedules for exams this structure has been lost. The actual exam process has become even flimsier with cadets only re-taking the bits they fail. This sounds like an idea after a Friday lunch down the pub after several bevvies.
As a result we will in 2-3 years time have youngsters, potentially well under 16 being held back for no reason than to pander to some ATC BS. If I found myself in this situation any parents querying it would get CAC’s email and if they used it social media details to pose questions.

Strange attitude you have GHE. If you don’t like the BS, there’s always someone who can be found to replace you.

He’s not real, he’s one of those chinky 50 centers out to sabotage the internet…!
