Wing Field Day Drill Routine IC = highest rank?

My Wing has its annual Wing Field Day competition coming up soon. Our IC of the Drill Team is a Cadet Flight Sergeant. There is a possibly I may be a CWO by the time of the competition. Would it cause a problem for me to be in the drill squad or as highest rank, do I have to be IC?

The FS is a mate of mine and if possible I don’t want to take his place. He’s one who has put months of effort into training and organising it all.

Thank you

Nothing says it has to be the highest rank as far as I know.

IMHO it should be the cadet with the best knowledge, aptitude and persona who is Drill Squad IC on WTD/WFD/WTFD!

If Cpl J Bloggs projects his voice clearer, has better posture, better uniform and better knowledge of AP1358C and AP818 than his/her SNCOs then that’s the candidate I’d choose as the IC for the squad.

It will depend on whether your wing apply their own rules to their own competition or whether they closely follow the rules for the Corps competition (ACTO120).

ACTO120 clearly states that the squad has “a Cadet Drill Coordinator of any rank in command”.
You could have a squad of 12 CWOs under the command of a Cadet as DC.

It used to say that it had to be the highest rank.
I know that some Wings haven’t gotten past that.

That said, the competition will be changing soon anyway so who knows what the new rules will be?

But will it change in time for wing field days?

i will change in time for Region field days but not Wing…and offer a situation where 5/6 Wings are running on the “old” format

That is almost certainly going to be the case.
To release a new competition and expect it to be run the same year is ridiculous.

It should have been released this year with the intent to run it in 2016; or it should have been released last year.

Not necessarily, but it does needs to be out at the start of the year. I think NI Wing have held their competition a week or so ago.

I’m wondering how long it is worth waiting before committing my wing to using the old sequence for this year

nope, I was a CWO in the flight and a Sgt was IC. Reason… I went in the flight in a practice and it just clicked having me in the flight and they all performed better. So it made sense, besides it was going to be the 4th year I had been IC so was nice to actually do the drill!
