That makes sense, but it seems wasteful to allocate licences to squadrons by default then. We can’t use them, but there is still a licence cost to the charity if we don’t? Or maybe it is only billed if they are activated.
If you can’t use, hand th back and let another take on extra licences
Hopefully that’s an option, but I’ve not seen it.
Or they just have a nominal pool of licences and only pay for those that Squadrons take up
So have finally got round to this.
It works but there are a few extra steps:
-
In the article linked above there’s a link to a separate article on installing Win11, with detailed instructions;
-
that article gives the work rounds for unsupported CPUs, TPMs etc. You need to change the Registry (fairly simple)
-
what they missed is that you need download the ISO file and run the Setup app from within that: the Windows 11 Installation Assistant won’t work
-
you need to download the ISO for the correct language otherwise Setup will remove your apps and settings. Our PC was set to English United Kingdom which isn’t an option for the ISO. Had to switch to English US then download that ISO file, not the English International (can swap back later)
-
to install a major update (so 25H1 or whatever comes next) have to repeat the whole process. Minor updates should download as normal.
