I lost track last year with the mergers!

I think there are 34 left. North and S&NI both lost one. I know Wales was due to but someone whined
any news on what we call them yet? hence why Cpl (ATC) would be so much easier!
They are refered to as Sgt, as that’s what they are. Only the dress regs have changed.
I did ask this myself to the point of debating that if they cant wear Sgt tapes they are not a Sgt but seems like no one agreed with me on that one even though thats the way the RAF work.
Not that I am against them being called Sgt just give them the tapes with a white tab to show they are.
I’m currently a Pre-ATF SGT ATC now going through the commissioning process. IMHO I’m not going to be wearing White Rank Slides until I’m issued them!
I think to save a load of confusion between spotting the difference between Off Cdt and Sgt (white tabs) and what we call them, they should have just made the Sgt’s wear the rank and be addressed as Sgt but also wear the white tabs about 1 cm poking out from the rank slide. Much like the old ‘pedo’ tabs days…
- KARMA if you agree!
Don’t worry - I’m sure your wing will be on it.
It is all being sorted out up here and I saw my first set “in the wild” last Saturday.

I slightly prefer Incubus’ idea of having white above and below though - that would of course need a new item (a white tab wider than the Sgt stripe).
I also like his Plt Off braid on white for OCdt RARVR(T).

Exactly what I have been saying
We have a pre ATF who has turned round and said “Im not wearing them they can do one” Then went off on one because when I get into uniform I wont have to as an Ex reg SNCO
We have a pre ATF who has turned round and said “Im not wearing them they can do one”
They can sod off then. Doesn’t sound like someone we really need.
Tell him that he’s meant to be one of the custodians of dress and discipline, and that he’s hardly setting a good example.
Feel free to add a ‘facepalm’ for effect.
He is one of them 21 year old ex cadet types that think they know everything about being in the forces I really wish I could Facepalm him…

i completely agree and second this! would save any confusion.
both pre-ATF ranks wear white tab backing to their slides, easily identifiable
i’m not quite sure why ex-regs SNCOs dont have to though.
yes if they have come out of the forces and a fairly recently (12-24 months) joined the ATC, but in some cases it could be years, decades even between service.

The only reason I can think of is the AP says so
I only left the RAF 2 years ago but it is nice to have previous service/rank recognised
I will still have to do ATF just not wear the white tabs
What I was told was that SNCO wears a white tab with atc on, just like the new officers have a white tab with vrt and they receive there rank once they complete ATF.
I think this is a good idea, as it means that people must attend ATF in the year instead of leaving it unless they have a good reason.
you were told correctly
AP1358C States
“All SNCOs within the ACO who have not completed their SSIC at ATF RAF Cranwell, must wear white rank slides with ATC insignia when in uniform, prior to attending ATF. The only exemption will be Ex Regular Forces WOs/SNCOs, however they are still required to attend the SSIC at ATF.”

They hold rank soon as they are appointed. The white tab just indicates an “SNCO” (indicating they hold rank) that hasn’t attended ATF.
I agree it’s a good idea, poorly executed though.
I agree it’s a good idea, poorly executed though.
There’s a shock!
The Powers That Be are on the case and aiming to get a solution which actually works well in the real word, by the way.
