What rules are there about dyed hair?

Hi!

I’m a pretty new cadet and recently(meaning yesterday), I used semi-permanent pink hair dye. Naturally, I have quite dark brown hair and didn’t bleach it, so it’ll fade over time but at the moment it’s very vibrant and Remembrance Day is coming up.

So, am I likely to be told to dye it brown again? I understand that rules differ depending on the sqn. But I’d like to hear other people’s experiences or thoughts on this. I’m a little nervous to rock up to cadets on Tuesday with pink hair and I guess I’d just like to know if my nerves are rational.

Thanks!

0156. If the hair is dyed or highlighted, all colours chosen are to be a natural shade

That’s the excerpt from the regs. Especially with remembrance coming up, I’d advise you to dye it back to a natural colour.

You shouldn’t be in uniform with pink hair as it is a very unnatural shade so isn’t in line with the regs (ACP1358 Para 0156).

As you said, squadrons are likely to deal with this differently, so it’s fair to be nervous, as an NCO I’d appreciate if this was the case for the cadet in question to reach out ahead of time so I’m not surprised and have time to get an answer from up the CoC (CWO/OC) - so if you are able to reach out to an NCO or staff I’d do that.
