What is happening with gold fieldcraft?

I’ve never seen a gold fieldcraft course as well as not seen cadets with the qualification. I feel like it’s been forgotten and with JL out of the picture I feel like cadets will never get to do the full fieldcraft experience.

I keep forgetting that JL was a gold leadership course and not the gold fieldcraft one.

It feels odd that we let cadets with blue fieldcraft on FTI(R) courses, as gold is [s]usually[/s] sometimes the instructor qualification: but I understand why, due to the way blue fieldcraft is kind of a standalone thing (being the only fieldcraft training without the requirement for L98 quals).

Don’t worry OC JLs will put something out on their FB group, no further :roll_eyes:

Whatt… really it’s coming back

Not to say it’s not coming back in some form, but that was a joke off the back of the QAIC update discussion:

why would cadet with blue only be on an FTI?

Gold is 2 modules, we’ve seen lots of FTI(R) courses ran but not many of the Gold field craft assessments.

as the syllabus is still quite new I’m sure it will start to happen in 2026.

Because you don’t need weapons to teach blue.

Do you need to be 18 for FTI(R)?

I’m sure we have U18 cadets that are FTI(R).

@Tornado ?

16 and completed Blue, then FTI(R)

However, @dazizian may be the best person to ask….

Absolutely! SWR ran a FTI(R) Course for silver cadets which went well, and we’re now delivering training to our Squadrons around the region. I’ve always been of the opinion that teaching is the best way to engage senior cadets, and encourage them to stay in the organisation to pass on experience to the new generation, and letting us teach the “exciting“ subjects at a lower level (blue) is the best way to do that.
