I am the TO at my sqn

I have no idea what to do with them on the next parade night

I am on leave that night, so need to provide staff with a plan (TOs are never allowed to be off!!).

  • We have a about 25 newish cadets
    They have been doing Blue L’ship, so cant really do that
    They did drill recently
    We are not doing classification or Space until Sep
    They will probably be in Blues (although I could change it to Greens)
    The sessions will be run/supervised by Cis (Most NCOs will be busy with other stuff this night)
    I wont have time to take anything up to Sqn prior to the night (print outs etc))
    We have radios
    We have laptops

They only idea I had was the map out the grounds of the sqn, but there is building work going on on other buildings, so that wouldn’t be easy

If you have them, I’ve been working through STEM kits etc to create a “team building” programme where we can progress through the available exercises and then tick them off as we go, ensuring that over a period of time we’ll never repeat stuff.

We’re aiming for one night per month as standard, but it’s great for a last-minute pivot too.

Give them 30 minutes rehearsing the formal drill routine and re-teaching some moves and that’s enough time to set up.

we have some MTa kit that has never come out the bag. Infact, we have two.

So an idea would to spend the first half getting them into two teams, and the first half each team to plan a leadership/leaderless activity/build for the other team to do second half.

Just do the first couple of exercises in your book. Don’t get them creating stuff.

And if you don’t like the kit, I’ll take it off your hands! :sweat_smile:

I would break them up into two groups and run two activities.

1 - Signal Intelligence tasking
Intercept radio communications and record the callsigns of radio operators.
Use a web based software defined radio to listen in to amateur radio communications.
RAF Hack Green is a good one to use for HF in the UK.

Book?? We did get folders with them…… they looked like they were form the 1980s and I didnt understand them…but then I am a simple

Are the CI’s unable to make their own nights up? We often turn up and wait for the numbers after the register to decide what they could do. We usually know what we could do the following night and get the NCO’s to come up with ideas, as we dislike classroom lessons like death by PowerPoint if we can help it.

We start off with 15 mins drill, then get some to do exams, either start or finish them off.
We have NCO’s who have ideas that they can do, such as leadership exercises. Or you could get them playing Kahoot :man_shrugging:

@Burnsie have they done any presentation skills stuff yet and are the CFAV that will be there good enough to do something around that?

Worst case, you use an informal “5 minute presentations” session to tee up selling a future presentation skills course.
