Sup guys, please excuse my absence as of late, my head has been in the books for exams! I have finally received my 1s (we won’t go in to that story…) and I was wondering what the general consensus is for this question: what type of VR(T) pin do you have on your 1s? I feel I should use the wing back ones as it would keep the lapel flatter, but I’m not that keen on cutting a slit for them to fit. I’d rather use the pin badge style instead, but I’m not sure whether that would make the lapel sit further out than it should. Wasn’t keen on poking holes and experimenting, so what do you have?
Just make sure to get them in the correct location and orientation.
I can’t believe the plethora of ‘alternative arrangements’ I see for both VRT and ATC pins.
Naively I thought that would be the case too, but alas no. Thanks all, I think I’ll go for the pin badge ones so that they definitely can’t spin. And don’t worry wdimagineer2b, I’m one of the ones who actually cares how I look in uniform
Indeed. I remember three sets of No1s coming back from the stn tailors (this for a trio of new auggie ACs/ACWs), and the seamstress IC badging had fitted both cloth shoulder 'A’s (like she should), and brass lapel 'A’s (like she shouldn’t). And both in the wrong places. Rare, but mistakes can happen.
Incidentally Foley, there are four types of fastening for VRT (or any other lapel titles). None seem to push out the lapels much. First the classic lug+split-pin; then the rarer threaded pin with circular nut; followed by the common thin-pin and butterfly clasp; and finally the super-cheap flat splay-leg variety.
I reckon that if handfuls of the common pin ones were to have been shovelled onto the roads of southern England (in response to an attempted invasion by the Nazis or Russians etc), they’d’ve been delayed in advancing for weeks. These things are agony to step on…
