unfortunately with such a small development team working on the whole of RAFACs software this will happen it’s unfortunate but nothing they can do about it
It isn’t the devs who deal with helpdesk tickets, is it?
[genuine question]
I was under the impression it ones person’s job and they are currently on hols with no backfill
This and they havent been able to recruit during covid… god knows why.
Rest of the world keeps going!
Thought so, cheers
even so for the size of our organization, you’d expect to have a far bigger team not just one person hence why they are falling behind!
Yep agree
No, there is a D grade post that manages the service desk. If they need technical input, they will approach either the developers or infrastructure staff for feedback and support as required. There is another E grade post to support the service desk but that post is currently vacant.
Yes and this has been raised at Command Board (by me) and then further up at 22 Gp level as well. There may be some movement in the future, but at the moment, we have two software developers, two infrastructure techs and one service desk officer - and some random volunteers helping out where we can - for an organisation if 58,000 people.
Lol 58000 people should be a full time IT department of 30 plus.
Damn. When you put it like that it really puts it into perspective. Given HQAC has something crazy like 100 posts anyway, having an IT team that is smaller than most secondary schools have is pretty bizarre…
out of interest, does anyone know how big the IT Dept is for the RAF??
given we’re of similar size and structure it would be interesting to see how the two compare…
Intersting. Bit difficult to know for sure as the RAF and mod contract out alot of IT.
In house dept prob small.
Number of contractors I bet is massive!
And remember they’ve got both an airman trade and officer branch that are dedicated to IT / comms tech.
You’re not comparing identical things there, though. Some IT staff (including in the RAF) may be dealing with hardware, but the RAFAC IT staff are purely software focused.
Dont they have laptops at HQAC, RHQ and WHQ then?
As far as I know that isn’t looked after by HQAC?
Can’t see why they would be, surely they are Modnet?
Incorrect. The infra guys manage physical infrastructure in the JSF as well as the physical servers located on prem at HQ RAFAC and all of the Bader IT physical kit issued to staff and volunteers (hundreds of items including laptops, desktops and smartphones…oh and things like the Microsoft Surface Hubs etc etc).
Some kit which is issued to individuals are MODNet devices like some smartphones and laptops (the latter only issued to people like Comdt, HOBs, COS etc). Lots of kit which is not MODNet are issued to all sorts of people (my team included).
Edit: they also look after the deployment of WiFi around the HQ and all of the network infrastructure in it, as well as the Regions and some of the Wings as well. Busy people.
Interesting, did not know!
But these are ££££s! No wonder there’s no money for badges or rank slides.
