Thought I’d share some feedback from our Cadets about Teams.

We’ve been holding bronze radio sessions 1 night a week over so many weeks, additional to our virtual parades.

The cadets actually said they thought radio training was better over teams as they weren’t sat at opposite ends of the room or building trying to radio each other. They said logging onto a pc for 1.5 hours each evening was so much easier than parents trying to rush them to a Sqn on a none parade evening for a couple of hours only.

They seem to have retained the information better as not been taught in bulk over weekends.

Agree teams isn’t best for everything, but they were extremely happy to do this kind of activity on there.

Question on CP…

We as a squadron have been invited to nominate up to two cadets for a regional event. If I simply advertise the event on cadet portal do I then have control over the bidding side of cadets from my squadron for the event? Which would allow me to openly advertise for a set period before then making selection a few days before or can this only be done by the event organiser?

Yes you can.

You can make it bidding for your unit, and then you (and the organising unit) will be able to make selections.

Suspected that would be the case!

Cadet Portal v2.1.5 Release

Cadet Portal has been updated to v2.1.5. This was a minor release and there was no interruption to users.

The Announcements functionality described in this article has already been released to Cadet Portal. The SMS side of Announcements, which allows CFAVs to create and publish them, will be released in the next version of SMS which is due to ship on 19 Aug 20. This means that as soon as SMS is updated on the 19th, CFAVs will be able to create announcements in SMS and post them directly to cadets through Cadet Portal.

Key points to note for this release of Cadet Portal:

Performance Issues
Cadet Portal was experiencing some performance issues during peak-times, usually on a Tuesday and Thursday at 1900 hrs. We have applied some fixes and believe that this issue has been resolved after a period of monitoring.

The Bader Landing Site has been refreshed and we will be using this site to report problems with Cadet Portal in the future as well as through social media and the Chain of Command.

Cadet Training How to Guides added to Cadet Portal
A new How to Guide has been added to Downloads on the National Drill and Ceremonial Camp.

This release incorporates the new medical, allergy and special dietary needs that can now be added to a cadets record in SMS. Once added to the cadets SMS record, the data can be view by the cadets through Cadet Portal on their profile page on the new Medical tab. The Files that can also be added to a cadets record can also be viewed in Cadet Portal on the profile page under the new Files tab.

The latest TG How to Guide on uniform care has also been added as part of this release.

Had a thought for a feature for SMS/CP.

With these new “e-certificates” that TG and Shooting have released, what is the possibility of having Bader generate a pdf certificate and email to cadet and/or OC/Training when a qualification is added onto a cadets profile?

From a technical point of view it’s possible with Latex or Scribus both allowing scripts to manipulate a file and generate a pdf.

not just LaTeX, there are decent libraries in whatever your favourite programming language is  Except Fortran. Nothing good can ever be said about Fortran

Oh sorry, I went off in a bit of a ranty daydream there!

:joy: I wouldn’t know, I’ve never been subjected to that horror!

I work in a department which is basically split by whether people are C/C++ fanboys or Fortran fanboys

Well, aside from the fact that it still runs a massive wedge of the baking infrastructure

I tell a lie… I’m thinking of COBOL.

who knew that bread required

IMPLICIT NONE

That looks great - I can see this being really useful. What is the policy around use of this? When can we bin off the TG23s!?

@james_elliott

When filtering by date in ‘my events’ the events cannot be arranged in full ascending or descending as they part filter by day, month and year…

Really annoying.

Have you logged it as a bug with your POC or directly on the Helpdesk?

Nope.
Bader helpdesk about as helpful as giving self a new hole in head.

You’re welcome to log it.
Must be affecting everyone.
