This shows a lack of knowledge about what informed consent is. In order to make a decision about a particular event, the parents or guardians need a full appreciation of the risks involved in the activity before they can give informed consent. These risks can include serious injury or death and cannot be fully eliminated.
Not everyone knows what hazards are involved in flying, shooting, or ‘adventure training’, nor do they understand how we intend to control the risk.
A bag pack will always just be a bag pack AT for example can be many different things and context and information is important.
Getting parents to sign off on Trekking for example, are they consenting to an LLA environment or Snowdonia? You need to give specific consent for an activity like that where serious injury or death is a real risk.
One thing would find really useful is a tab on the events page that shows if I have advertised a course in cadet portal without having to go into the event. Our wing currently has around 18 events advertised, and I must say I found it hard to keep track of which I have opened up to the cadets which lead to me going into some more than once to check. A little green CP next to the open events on cadet portal on the main page would be awesome.
That function (and others) is exactly what has just been added in the latest release out today as was advertised in the previous batch of release notes.
Sorry @juliet_mike if that was a little abrupt! The idea was put to VSDT by members of ACC and they turned it around quite quickly.
If you get access to Bader Mail then whenever the SMS/Portal updates come through they’re a worthwhile read despite the usual instinct to ignore anything all.rafac.
Please please please can the attendance register print out have the option to split by flight. We have 3 flights of roughly 30 cadets and two recruit flights of 15. We need 5 signin boards and the way it works now gives you one. We need to print and go not export to excel and split up.
