Is this the Cadet Portal Users list under " Home > User Accounts" ?
The “assigned to” field seems to be a text field whose data consists of Rank, Initial and Surname (ie, “Cpl J. Bloggs”) and will alpha-sort on that basis. Not very useful.
Yes it is. I agree, hence seeing if it could be changed
Edit: it does seem to ignore rank and sort on first initial though
Bob - agree - and a format for AI is taught and that is another attachment. Shouldn’t really be in the description, and also shouldn’t be something that is exposed to cadets
This is very annoying!
Not for me it doesn’t!
Blimey you lot have been busy…I go away for 24 hours…
I think @mikellee has answered most of your questions, if not, can you re-pose the ones you want to know about so I can answer them easily please? That’s a lot of posts to go through!
Correct, I was again not looking properly.
Tbh, not sure I recall seeing you both at the same time…
…and of course anything created at Wing level since we can’t self-auth those.
I can, for example, create SMS events for wing drill courses/parades/&c but I cannot authorise them myself.
Nor in fact can I submit them for authorisation in the same way that a Sqn can submit (which actually is a failing of the SMS system which needs addressing soon!) I have to email WHQ and ask them to intervene; otherwise nobody gets told that the event is ready and so nobody authorises it.
But even for self-auth events we still need to provide all the same details as they may be audited and they do still have to be authorised. Not by WHQ but by the Sqn OC - who will need to see something which shows that the event has been properly planned and that everything is in place which needs to be.
Those details still have to go somewhere regardless of how the event is approved and I stand by my earlier point that a separate attached admin order is not always the most efficient means of doing so - hence using the description box for those details. Anyone can then simply read that box and be in a position to approve the event; without having to dig about opening attachments.
Remember that the description field was designed at a time when WHQ or above had to authorise everything and before the nonsense idea of writing an admin order for everything.
I don’t think it’s fair to take current process as an indication of what it was wasn’t designed for. In fact I’d go as far as to say that is actually exactly what it was designed for.
The implication I read in your reply seems to suggest that HQs need only read the required attachments (such as RAs and range documents) and basically take for granted that all other organisation will be carried out correctly iaw the standing ACTOs &c.
That is a very pragmatic approach and I wish it were the case but sadly it certainly wouldn’t wash in my Wing and I suspect in many others. WExOs/OC Wgs/&c who are authorising seem to want to see a lot more - probably because in their experience CFAVs have simply not been organising these things correctly.
Taking my own experiences of others into account it I were in their position I’d be the same… I’ve seen too many fools rushing off half-cocked.
At the time that SMS was introduced the description field was specifically used for providing this sort of information and people have continued to do so (to vary degrees of completeness) ever since. Now with new systems and new processes we need a new, clear policy or guidance.
Aye… It was basically myself, incubus and redowling exchanging ideas (mostly me thinking out loud).
I think all of my questions are still open and relevant but what I’ll do is create a précis in due course after considering all the various discussion which you missed.
Thanks, that would be great
I did start earlier on with the intention of sending it to Rich to proof (along with some bug reports) but ended up going out for the afternoon.
Road Marching Is a RTL activity that needs Wing authorisation. Currently it is done by the WATTO but will soon be done by the Wings RM officer when the new policy gets stood up.
Thankyou
Wing RM Officer…
Assuming each wing had someone interested. Or available.
Speaking to my boss who’s about to become one theres a push from HQAC for each wing to have one.
Definitley needs to be the right person for it to have purpose or be effectice
Odds-on it’ll be double-hatted by the WATTO unless there is specific interest within a wing.
None of this will be happening until the policy is approved, which it hasn’t been as yet…
@james_elliott - Events views - at the moment we have My Events and Invited Events
Would like to easily see
- Label for all events to show if they are Advertised in CP
- At the moment Invited Events only show in My Events when Staff/Cadet is selected to attend so a view that shows what events Staff/Cadets have bid for even if not selected without having to check each event
(I assume the Sel,Res,Bid numbers are the event totals and not Sqn specific as an invitee and don’t appear to be working at the moment or it may be that my Wg have not properly put the info in)
over 50% take up in 1st week and cadets already bidding and using absence notification plus badge chasing so thanks for the excellent work all round
I may have missed this but can we discriminate in who we invite to events e.g. All Fist Class Cadets, only those with a Bronze DoE etc?
