Volunteer Software Development Team - New Cadet Portal

@mikellee / @james_elliott is there a new roadmap for Cadet Portal + SMS that covers the next X period of anticipated work following on from the working weekend pre Christmas that can be shared?

Aware there remains the Comms manager role to be filled

@james_elliott

Not sure if this has been asked yet, but what scope has been allowed for the existing users of previous independent systems (MySquadron/Squadronbox), to retain them?

Not all the features that they had have been transfered over. For example, several units within my responsibility are using MySquadron, using it for stores manager, canteen stock levels and as a chat function (similar to a closed Facebook group)

I would imagine that where personal data is stored in such other systems then it’ll be a flat ā€œcease and desistā€ since SMS and Cadet Portal are the accredited systems and we should never have been storing personnel details on other random systems anyway.

Where it’s used for something innocuous like stock management I can’t imagine that HQAC will care.

Chat… That’s somewhat grey. If users have any reason to think that their conversations are secure in there (e.g. because it appears to the average Joe to be in some way ā€˜official’), and those conversations are compromised then we’re in a sticky position.

Imagine the subsequent board of enquiry when parent X declares ā€œI thought it was a safe chat room on an official website… It looked all official with ā€˜Air Cadets’ and stuff and the Squadron staff told us to join it… If I’d known that it was just some random thing hosted on a system god-knows where, under the control of god-knows who I would never have said that I’d be leaving little Johnny on his own at the Sqn hut for half an hour before everyone was due to arriveā€¦ā€

I was expecting comms or policy to state that cadet portal alternatives to cease operations. I either missed it or it hasnt been released yet.

Nothing yet. I think it’ll be coming in due course.

Squadronbox will be no more at COP tomorrow we have been informed that the server is being wiped through the CFAVs that developed it

Not yet - I have asked @mikellee to have a stab at sorting out our prioritised list etc in time for discussion at our team meeting next Wednesday.

Yep - closing date for applications in 6 Jan

SquadronBox will cease to exist tomorrow as someone below has already said. The owners of MySquadron will be communicated with in due course.

This already exists as others have eluded to - non-official, non-accredited platforms are not to be used. Reiteration of this stance will no doubt follow once Cadet Portal is fully released - final tranche next Monday

Sorry if this has already been covered. I have created an event on SMS and advertised it on cadet portal. I then invited other squadrons in our sector but there is a x under the cadet portal column for other squadrons except our own.

How do I make this appear in cadet portal for the other squadrons ?

You can’t, the other Squadrons must push it to their cadets on Cadet Portal.

This is spot on - each unit must advertise to their own cadets

This is great @james_elliott

Be interesting to see the usage stats for the first quarter of 2020 with everyone using it

Really interesting, thanks!

It seems to have some duplicate data.
By ā€œsomeā€, I mean just about all of the graphics.

Yeah I will do a usage report probably in March-April - but we can see stats live all the time.

Browser Type between 25 Oct and 2 Jan

Mobile devices for same date range

Device type (high level) for same date range

Ahuh, that’s because they are the same - its the full report where the raw feedback can be seen.

Not sure why I am, but I’m quite amazed at the % of cadets who have an iPhone!

Perhaps the beta Sqns are in the ā€˜well to do areas’

If that were the case, then why has the trend continued in the above example? 65.19% iPhone users since 25 Oct 19 to 2 Jan 20…

Clearly Britain has more money than sense…
