i use Chrome for general “surfing the net” but for anything intranet based IE is the default as nothing works without IE (even Edge doesn’t work…!)
In my work place we have to use IE with the security levels lowered for certain applications as Chrome will not run them do to them being “unsafe”.
You don’t have to tell me, I know…
That’s just bad IT management is that…
If I had £1 for every so-called IT “expert” I’ve met or heard stories about over the years who actually knew very little about IT…
These people are paid big salaries for being utterly clueless. I’m in the wrong job.
Expert implies that someone know’s everything about something…now “specialist” gives far more wriggle room
whats the saying? expert, broken down, ex as in hasbeen, spert as in drip under pressure . . .
I have speciallist in my job title and sometimes dont have a clue what I’m doing
So, just doing the training and came to this part:
The event commander and the unit commander will be required to sign a transport declaration that states that any unit organised transport is in line with ACP 4 Safeguarding and Protecting Children, ACTO 150 Royal Air Force Air Cadets MT Policy and that the requirements of the generic transport risk assessment in IBN 010-2018 Generic Risk Assessment for the Transport of RAFAC Personnel in any Mechanical Transport have been met
Personally, I see a number of occasions where I cannot sign this as, IIRC, the generic risk assessment states that drivers should not take part in the activity. Often I am the qualified person for both the activity and driving the minibus; not always, but some of the time. I am almost always driving some form of vehicle on an activity, whether carrying passengers, towing a trailer full of canoes, or something else. Whilst I am cognisant of the requirements for breaks, duty hours etc. and happy to comply with these, it will make it very difficult to tick this particular box!
I’m not sure we have the resources to have dedicated drivers for every activity.
No one can sign to say that they’re following IBN 010-2018, as it’s not possible to follow a risk assessment in that state.
I cannot for example, conform that all loads carried on my vehicle are secured IAW XXXX, as as for all I know XXXX states that I must use use dragon tendons and hooks made of unicorn horn to attach things.
This too is a very good point!
Not to mention the fact that the IBN bans cadets from travelling on anything larger than a minibus.
Or that cadets for some reason need to have done method of instruction to be allowed to load a roof rack.
Or that sqns need to nominate someone to conduct check rides, including with all taxi drivers used.
You also can’t transport any cadets in a car which locks the doors automatically when moving
If you read it completely literally, the only vehicles that can be used are hire vehicles. As it covers all use of vehicles by RAFAC personnel, it presumably even applies to HTD travel - so you can’t drive yourself to the unit if you’re not first aid trained.
If this colossal mess of a document is to be a part of the new policy, it really needs sorting (ie deleting from the face of the universe and completely re-written from scratch by someone who knows what they’re doing).
This has been the latest sticking point with gliding. Must take 2 staff and driver and supervisor for the day. Getting just a driver is an uphill battle!
I find it very weird that we hate generic risk assessments and are told that we should do specific ones, and yet they give this document we have to use but it’s so vague and non specific it can’t work.
I think the intent is the generic is taken and made specific for your local circumstances… but given the number of holes in it that makes it quite difficult.
To be clear all of the credit for SMS goes to the Bader Developers - we have helped on the fringes to an extent but that is changing. My Lead Developer is now involved in approving code for SMS and is actively working on rebuilding AMS in MVC. I could get some more TLAs into that sentence if I really thought about it
OK, edited it for you!
But you cba?
Yes yes, over
Oh is he? That’s useful to know…
Don’t know if you are able to pass this onto the sms developers @james_elliott , but a slight bugbear of mine…
SNCOs and CIs does not need an apostrophe!! They’re not contractions or a possessive nouns!
