Oh well, that’s it then. Given the quality of some of the muppets they’re handing out promotions to there goes that idea
I do sincerely hope that you’re not in line for this at some point and you are regarded by some as a muppet.
The biggest problem here is, what criteria will he use?
Does anyone know what the criteria for promotion to WO are for the RAF?
The criteria would need to be linked to a TOR and we don’t have TORs for SNCOs. I would hope that any TORs produced do not have specific criteria for drill/dress, because that doesn’t help at squadron level. I don’t want to have 2 or more SNCOs all having to have a responsibility for drill/dress so that they can feel they could be eventually promoted to WO.
The biggest problem here is, what criteria will he use?[/quote]His own opinion. No doubt this will be based on whether they look and act the part correctly and not on any actual competence or experience so TORs aren’t going to be a factor.

I would expect their dress standards to be excellent if they wish to be considered for promotion and their drill standards should be enough so that they act as an example and not a point of ridicule (as should be the case for all uniformed members of staff.)
I’ve met an RAF SSI. He was wearing DPM rank slides with CCF embroidered underneath them. He told me he wore metal “CCF” pins through his rank slides in No 2s.
Really? That is very interesting…40B/tmmorris, were you aware?
Is this referenced in AP1358C anywhere, or is it perhaps lurking in a CCF-specific dress-regs document?

Cheer up, you don’t have to be a misery all the time.
Alternatively, you could not take everything I say so seriously? Particularly when it has a ‘tongue in cheek’ pokey-tongue smily accociated with it.
But, since the discuission of the point continues…I do think that if CASWO is using his own judgement to decide whether the Royal Arms should be authorised in any further instances, then the ATC might wish to appear to be ever more professional. One good way to do this would be to stop promoting people who clearly are not suited to the rank and/or position.

I got the impression that he’d just made this up based on his knowledge of CCF(Army) and ATC customs. Nice bloke, though.
