VGS Cringe

Words fail me …

Yeah this makes me want to be sick

Maybe we need to be a bit more tolerant to bullying to stop this happening…

:joy:

why what am i missing?

Oh dear!

Oh. My. Goodness.

What are we hoping to gain from this thread, other than the online bullying of some young people? If you can provide me a good reasoned answer I’ll keep this open. Otherwise I’m going to lock it.

That hopefully, someone will advise them to be more careful with their social media posts?

That is a fair point - but not achieved by posting it on here, calling it cringey and getting other people to pile on.

Who knows? Any bullying isn’t are here so much, as on the Insta post (self-inflicted). Moreover, & quite important, these aren’t very junior cadets with limited experience, quite the opposite - with a higher level of responsibility working at a VGS. If they can’t see that the post might generate “adverse” reactions, maybe they need to re-think their status, or desist from social media for a while.

So, to be clear, your argument is that because they aren’t technically children people are entitled to humiliate them?

Regardless, the AUP is very clear here. Posts should not be made with the intention of humiliating, being malicious of otherwise denigrating others. We apply the same reasoning when people come on here and try and post photos of uniform issues. It serves no purpose other than making the poster feel big about themselves, adds to the internet being a cess pit and in no way benefits anyone in any meaningful way.

If the idea is to suggest that they consider their social media profile, message them privately. Praise in public, reprimand in private is the adage we teach cadets so why should they be expected to listen to that when on here anyone can attempt to post what they want with no repercussions, no accountability and no kindness.

The more I read of this thread, the harder I’m going to be to convince otherwise.

I think it should be closed.

I agree with the sentiment that has been expressed, but this isn’t the way to do it.

I assume the VGS is identifiable. So email them. Let them know so they can decide how they’d like to address it. This doesn’t achieve anything productive.

We should be looking out for our people and developing / counselling them, cadet and staff alike.

I’ve heard the location mentioned on SM (one of my former postings) but I won’t post it here publicly.

Edit: In fact, the location I’m referring to is at the bottom of the video.
