Update to Heat Illness Policy

Is there anywhere to record having completed the training on SMS yet?

It should automatically record completion. Look on Units and you’ll see it.

Accidentally did Module 1 on DLE rather than Learn as that’s what the IBN said so missed the link through to units.

I did it all on DLE last year… update my climatic injury record in SMS and attached the certificate

I redid on Learn over the weekend so that it synced over to Units/Bader properly

That’s what I did, too. It’s also what I plan to continue doing, as I won’t be doing it twice every time it comes around (two years?)

@JustCallMeFlight are you a Service Instructor, as that would make sense, a bit like BPSS and Responsible for Information etc.

Yes, so I have to do it in DLE anyway.

The one for the DVD, or is there another one?

It was the same as the DVD at the time.

I question why we have no such cold injury training pack.

Cold injuries pack on DLE

The DIN for this new training pack was only published last month, which I guess is why RAFAC hasn’t picked up on it.

We’ll catch up in January, just after the worst of the cold weather.

I wish I was joking, but I fully expect this.

Just as a rubbish side note about module two…

As a JNCO, the MoD expect me to complete that as a “commander”.

So I would assume every CFAV would need to complete it too, but I would like to be proven wrong.

I suspect we’ll (CFAV) be required to all do Mod 1 and anyone running an activity will have to do Mod 2, similar to heat stuff as it is now?

I have no idea.

Hopefully that’ll be the case.

I just checked and I think we’re actually all meant to do Mod 1 and Mod 2 now for heat, according to an email I’ve just found! So maybe it will be the same for cold. Who the hell knows, all this policy seems to be based on IBNs and emails now, not an actually policy document!

• Staff and Staff Cadets are to complete DLE Mod 1 and 2 Heat Illness Prevention Training on DLE (now) or LEARN (when available) by COP 09 Jul 23.

Better than what I could find.

Mines based on my old FS refusing a lot of peoples leave over policy he made up in his own head based on his loose adaptation of the guidance.

On second thoughts… Did he volunteer at HQAC?

Which makes it harder for them to wash their hands and dump it all on CFAVs when something goes wrong and they end up in the coroner’s court. The utter failure to communicate changes and make policy accessible will seriously count against Special K.

I’ve said it before and will no doubt say it again. If you’ve got time to write an IBN then you’ve got time to update the freaking ACP/ACTO etc. and promulgate both together. The IBN should be to draw attention to the change but the policy document should always be up to date so that someone who misses the IBN and goes straight to the source knows what they should be doing.

It is laziness at best, (in some cases maybe criminal) negligence at worst to take the haphazard approach we currently have.

They only time you should be changing it by announcement without the accompanying ACP change is in an emergency situation where time is of the utmost essence. And then you send it to all email accounts, not hide it on SharePoint. And then the policy document should be updated within a matter of hours once you’ve got a grip on things. And let’s face it, those situations are almost certainly going to be a complete pause on activities anyway.

We have ACTO 99 which shows our mandated training. It should be a one-stop-shop to see what we are required to do/have. It’s not been updated since 2021. That sort of says it all.

I think I’ve only ever done module one, but then again I’m more of a manager than a commander.
