Takes 15 minutes to get a reading. They have to be left for a while.
And now brief details of heat plan to be included in revised RSDs.
This was a temp reading we had in Shader…
No mitigation in place, other than having to wear gloves in the hangar because the cabs were too hot to touch…
The reason for no further action was because the WGBT was displaying less than 35deg…
Management weren’t exactly listening to the WGBT after that.
Where did they put the WGBT? The fridge?
The working temp for the electronics in the QT34 is only up to 60° so it was approaching it’s limit there!
In all seriousness, humidity has a surprisingly large effect on the WBGT having played around with a few calculators so it could easily have been reading a low wet bulb temp if the air is very dry.
It’s a different kind of heat!
The WRT only go up to 40. What happens then?! It doesn’t say 40+, just 38-40!
If you’re near 0% humidity its so so so much easier for sweat to evaporate, thus, cooling you much more effectively!
Yes, hence the low WBGT reading.
The measurement in that picture is just ambient air temp I expect - not corrected for humidity / radiation / airflow etc as a WBGT reading is.
Not saying it’s not horrid to work in those temps mind… just the reason for the difference in the two readings.
Yeah, this was middle of the desert.
Only moisture was in my clothing from the sweat… Absolutely honking.
Engine air tests were between 0400-0600 as that was the only time temperatures were low enough to not throw the readings.
Our 5B1 didn’t actually go high enough to adjust the measurements.
Although, their reluctance and my apprehension over the WGBT is 100% down to a lack of understanding.
Further education would definitely be beneficial to people.
I bet that was a popular time to turn on all the engines
So what is the quickest anyone has done the heat injuries on learn (without taking shortcuts)?
I am sorry I do not compute…there is a long way to do it??
[/cynical]
I tried it several times on DLE but it kept crashing on me!
I found the learn one ok, i would however like it to actually be related to teenagers and what we are doing (appreciate we have to know as staff how to look after ourselves as well) I think it took about an hour - maybe slightly more. No way of rushing it either as it’s on a timer for each slide.
Is it a one off, annual or 3 year course ?
2 year validity I think.
