So not strictly air cadet related but…I’m hoping someone will know…
Where i am doing my degree is not affilated with a UAS, does anyone know how you can affiliate yourself with one, are there requirements? Will UAS’s accept a new university? Who do i contact within the university? Or who within a UAS?
Does the university have to pay a fee? if it does does this come from the uni or from the union as it is (sort of ) a club?
Follow the link to find your nearest UAS and then find the ‘HOW TO JOIN’ section and follow the step. I’m sure there will be someone who can answer your questions from a UAS Admin side.
Hope this help’s; if so hit the ‘THANKS’ button. Good luck
There are a select few universities which aren’t affiliated to a UAS, but I know that you can contact the most local Squadron and ask if you are eligible to join; they most likely will say yes. I would recommend trying to contact the Adjutant of the UAS in question, who will be able to help you further.
The university itself plays no role in this, you don’t have to contact any university staff and they don’t pay a fee.
Best of luck, I’d really recommend applying to join, I love it
Emmaac, a few thoughts: do you know if your selected university has an Army OTC associated with it?
I have known of existing UASs extending their list of eligible universities, but this has happened in different ways: incremental and en masse.
I have heard rarely of selected individuals (in the past) being able to successfully join a neighbouring UAS. This is entirely seperate from a university becoming formally affiliated to the UAS via senate approval. If you are an entirely-appropriate potential candidate, and there happens to be (unlikely) blank slots as a result of some reason at the main feeder university (or universities), you might be in with a chance.
The practical issues of distance/travel have to be considered, as do possible clashes with study, but you’ll have that already covered, I’m sure.
I’d definitely recommend contacting them to find out, or alternatively SUAS have a twitter account and I think they answer eligibility questions or can at least direct you to which email address to contact: https://twitter.com/SouthamptonUAS
Indeed. Give SUAS a shout (if you go to the “contact us” link on their RAF hosted website, and use the top (Adj) email address). May I ask which uni it is you’re looking to go to (PM if necessary).
I have heard a case of a non-UAS affiliated university student being accepted onto a UAS, although in his case he was a sponsored student.
I can’t see the advantages of turning away a well motivated candidate, even if they aren’t in the usual universities.
