Uniform Queries (RAFAC/CCF/ATC) (Includes Rank Slides)

Not at the ccf I attend, but green coveralls are sometimes used in place of mtp.

Also, officially when DPM was withdrawn for the Army sections, stock of DPM was given to the RAF sections rather than backloaded for disposal.
Some of that still floating around the system.

Standard RAF TRF for all uniformed staff - the RAF must order lots of thousands and have them in stock !

Isn’t it time to drop the ATC badging ?
We have not been known as the Air Training Corps for many years.
Drop the ATC beret badge (just use the RAF badge as per SNCOs & CCF) and brassard badge.
The squadron number badge fits the top position of the brassard nicely and would leave a bit more room for the 60+ existing cadet badges !

Why are the cadets displaying the RAF Ensign ? Surely that should be the ATC Ensign !

I think this was looked at a little while ago & there was a big hoo-ha about TRFS.

In short a banning order went out that no cadet force personnel should be wearing a TRF of a regular military unit. After some head scratching and legal gymnastics the exception was RAF VR(T) as they were under the armed forces act while the rest were not.

This was because it had become practise in some ACFs to wear the TRF of their regular parent unit. Unfortunately this was deemed a breach of the Geneva convention around child soldiers hence the banning order.

You would have the same issue dropping the ATC badge or aligning too closely to the RAF because legally we need to be distinct.

That is interesting - thank you.

How do the CCF cadets get away with wearing the RAF badge ?
One of my pet gripes at the moment are the new style wings being very similar in design to the RAF wings and worn on the chest.
Cadets will be looking more like regulars. This used to be a security concern.

It’s historic as the RAF sections pre-date the ADCC& ATC & the other markings distinguishing them from regulars is quite clear. I think there is also a bit of loophole abuse of distinguishing between routine day to day wear & tactical combat clothing & insignia.

There’s not a separate RAFAC bret badge just one for RAF sections & one for ATC units.

Nope. I joined the ATC, my squadron is still ATC. The local CCF is distinct in history and how it operates.

We are, like it or not, two distinct branches of the same tree.

“Us and them” isn’t an attitude borne from the cap badge. It’s not the problem, just something people use to support their bias.

While it’s frustrating that CCF cadets wear the RAF cap badge, they couldn’t wear ATC and I wouldn’t want to lose the ATC badge. What they wear on their berets is such a minor component of the relationship and the perceived problems that exist on their side.

Deemed by who? As long as they are also wearing their Cadet badging a TRF is no different to them wearing regimental cap badges.

The Geneva Convention talks specifically about “recruitment into the armed forces” it doesn’t mention care what they are wearing.

Smells like BS someone who disagreed with Cadets wearing TRF’s came up with as a justification to me.

Don’t worry. No cadets are going to get silver wings anyway

I did see a cadet wearing them on Instagram the other day.

Social media hype!

What is seen on SM isn’t reflective of true life

Judging by the age of personnel in that photo, it is an RAF team.

Yep - just enlarged the photo - I think you are right !

Still not convinced. They might still be cadets.
