Why is it more and more ATC staff seem to feel the need to wear and take pictures of themselves in UBAC’S

When are ATC personnel ever going to use armour?

I don’t know.

Though, I’ve only ever seen two or three at most.

Oh I have seen atleast 6 just in my wing with more in other locations.

Although not referring specifically to clothing designed to be worn under items you would not expect the average ACO member to need, I would refer the OP to a particularly interesting thread, which contains some thought-provoking comments and opinions made on members of the ACO who have acquired the latest apparel.

My inbox gets a lot of Ubacs complaints, could be doing better things in my role than chasing people about. I’m considering making wear the armour to go with for a day then see if it appears again

Only problem there is as soon as you allow once they will find an excuse to wear it more

ignoring the reasons for it being worn as part ATC use/duty/activities and thus the advantage of wron with armour…what ELSE does UBAc offer other than looking Ally/like a Walt?

IE what is the real reason they choose to wear it if they arent wearing Armour??

It makes you look like a gorilla.

They could have benefits under smocks on exercise. That way you have the benefit of the wicking layer under the torso (useful for webbing or rucksacks) and the benefit of the padding on the forearms.

but, crucially, as a stand alone outer layer. No. Just no.

If you are going to wear UBACs then you will have to have the matching TIER 3 PELVIC PROTECTION SHORTS, MTP to go with it…

I could possibly forgive their use if worn underneath an assault vest but just as an outer layer on its own it is a bit weird. I don’t find them particularly comfortable so I wouldn’t want to wear one.

and the tier 2 pelvic protection system?

I think I wore Tier 1 cycling to work this morning.

I am gonna weigh in here…

There is absolute no need for UBACS in the ACO.

We are banned from wearing them on camp and only allowed to wear them for fieldwork.

The forearm padding is terrible and gets ripped out. The Arm pockets are horrendous and get in the way (but gucci velcro!). The sizes on the old ones were terrible. the Collar is a nuisance. The cut and fit is impractical.

In the field I(and many others) dont even wear them under our smocks. Instead preferring to wear a baselayer with maybe a t shirt on top. Even in the jungle lads were wearing old style MTP shirts over the new style and UBACs.

Whilst there is a (weak) argument for MTP/PCS (which we all Know I disagree on) but at least there is some (small) reasoning behind it;

There is absolutely no need to wear a UBACs shirt in the ACO. It is waltism of the highest order.

Or could OP be an getting us all on a bite?

Agreed RAS.
Oneupmanship as usual. “Look what I’m wearing!!”

Is it because a well known cadet supply company sell it?
So it becomes a ‘must have’ one of them.

Well - If you see someone one your next camp walking round in full NBC gear that will be me. (From only £16.95)
If anyone comes near I’ll sprinkle decontamination powder all over you (£7.25)

Can anyone think of why you would actually buy NBC clothing and accessories?

(Spend a week in it on exercises and you cease to see the funny side)

Of course - I’m attempting to be funny…

If I was uniformed staff I’d just be happy enough in blue.
If I wanted to look like a soldier…

If I had some kind of psychological condition that made me petrified of the possibility of terrorist chemical attack I might buy one…

…fortunately, I don’t.

Funny story: the first ever time young and naïve Tango_Lima got togged up in 4R, I had a massive panic attack and had to be calmed down three or four blokes. To this date it is the only time I have ever experienced claustrophobia in any form.

Oh, and UBACS are lame.

After giving it some thought, I’ve decided to really, really not care.

It’s a bit odd, but it doesn’t appear to be against regs. I shan’t be rushing out and buying one.

Never had a panic attack, but I did vomit and fill my respirator on a crash move. Just thinking about it now brings back the taste, and the smell.
