UAS/RPAS (‘Drones’) on squadron

Ensure that anyone within 10m of the flying activity wears suitable eye protection.

What is eye protection supposed to protect you from? The debris and dust kicked up by the powerful rotors on these tiny drones? /s

suitable
This may be a time where my old chemistry teacher was right and spectacles are sufficient to replace safety goggles.

It seems a sensible enough IBN to be fair. No mention of insurance for indoor flying though. Maybe that is no longer required?

Sorry can we stay on topic and not turn this into a discussion about a volunteer who is not on here to defend themselves.

I just don’t understand what the delay has been with this.

Step 1) Create a policy outlining the requirement for delivery. Lets say that the qualification required is CofC A2 for example. Policy includes details of insurance through BMFA etc. Policy to also include outline of relevant legislation, rules regarding environment, safe distances etc (as per CAA).

Step 2) Create a syllabus aligned to cadets completing their online CAA exam, and getting their Flyer ID.

Step 3) (Bonus step): Approach a National Drone training company to secure a preferential rate for CofC A2 training for CFAV, approach companies selling drones for a discount scheme for Squadron’s who want to buy kit.

As per usual this organisation is completely and utterly useless. There was no calling notice to support this work, there has been no communication, no update (save for the useless IBN released recently which tells us nothing really).

Anything stopping squadron visits to a local air scouts pack for educational purposes? https://sdgs.scout.org/project/air-scout-basic-drone-course

Of course the scouts are doing it…

Oh FFS. This is ridiculous.

At this rate if you want anything aviation related the subliminal message is for kids to join the Scouts. If you want more school work join the RAFAC.

Teenagers join youth organisations to get away from school work, it’s to be relaxation away from behind a computer screen and meet people.

From the 48th Air Scout unit in Southport.

Scout Section

The Scout section is very popular and has activities going on each week. Even through summer we meet informally to have a bit of fun and practice anything that may be needed for upcoming badge work. As Air Scouts a lot of the work we do is aviation related, be it aircraft recognition, specifications of planes, radio communications and much more.

Completely (deliberately?) misunderstood by our current il duce who wants to turn us into a further education college and recruitment organisation, while ignoring how that will make us fall foul of the UN’s charter on child soldiers.

The leadership of this org is woefully out of touch and unfit for purpose.

The Army college at Harrogate doesn’t fall foul of the Child soldiers charter.

All ‘Tone’ is doing is trying to stop all risk so that it won’t stop any extension to his next tour or the very unlikely return to the mainstream RAF.

It really does. Recruiting under 18s into the armed forces, including at AFC, is regularly criticised by the UN and others.

Nobody is deployable until they are 18 though. As if the UN is really any moral authority, look who are on its women’s and human rights committee’s, some of the worst countries for rights abuses in the world.

An interesting debate, I’m sure, but not related to drones in the RAFAC.

But it is showing the RAFAC to be IMHO poorly managed and very very risk adverse, Kids have a choice to go to a different organisation and do things the RAFAC do not or will not do.

As I stated up thread, the RAFAC should be a place to get away from formal education and from behind a screen and do ‘fun’ things like drone flying for instance.

So a year on from the original post on the matter, we still have no sign of any formal drone syllabus, any sign of being able to get back to doing our own syllabuses, no request for SME’s to support work with drones, no communication from anyone on the subject or drones.

This organisation is truly useless.
